The affection for the animated film “KPop Demon Hunters,” the newest offering from Netflix, along with its accompanying soundtrack, appears to be increasing more and more.
Under the guidance of directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the action-packed series titled Demon Hunters sees its protagonists, Huntrix members Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, juggling two contrasting roles: they enchant listeners with their irresistible K-pop tunes during the day, while battling demons in the night. Throughout the movie, these young heroines confront a mysterious boy band, Saja Boys, who mask themselves as demons, exploiting their fame to seize souls.
The film, now leading Netflix’s U.S. movie chart again, seems to have made a significant mark through its soundtrack. This collection of primarily original tunes has been causing quite a stir on actual music charts worldwide.
The movie that regained the number one spot on Netflix’s U.S. movie top 10 list is leaving a notable impression, particularly with its soundtrack. The assemblage of mainly original tracks is creating a sensation on real-life music charts.
On Thursday, the debut single “Golden” by Huntrix (consisting of EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami) topped Spotify’s Daily Global Top Songs Chart, maintaining its number one position in the United States as well. Meanwhile, “Your Idol,” a track from the fictional boy band Saja Boys (comprising Andrew Choi, Neckwav, Kevin Woo, Samuil Lee, and Danny Chung), ranked fourth on Spotify’s Daily Global Top Songs Chart and second on the U.S.-specific chart.
As of Thursday, the cast of KPop Demon Hunters dominates the Daily Top Songs Global Chart with the highest number of spots. The soundtrack peaked at No. 1 on the streamer’s global Weekly Top Albums Chart and reached No. 2 on its U.S. chart during the week of July 3. Moreover, the cast of voice artists and musicians ranked at No. 10 on the platform’s Weekly Top Artists Global chart for the same period.
This past week saw a significant surge for Demon Hunters on the Billboard charts too. At present, seven songs from the movie’s soundtrack are featured on the Hot 100, with Huntrix’s “Golden” taking the lead at position No. 23. Not far behind is Saja Boy’s anthem “Your Idol,” sitting comfortably at No. 31. Interestingly, the entire soundtrack climbed up to the third spot on the Billboard 200 chart this week, having started at No. 8 last week.
The musical score for “KPop Demon Hunters” was recognized as the top-charting soundtrack of the year by Republic Records and also boasted the greatest streaming week for a soundtrack in the past two years. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s executive music producer intends to submit “Golden” for consideration during awards season.
