James Gunn is incredibly thankful for the strong opening at the box office with Superman, as well as the warm response he’s received from viewers.
On Sunday, the head of DC Studios, along with his co-leader, publicly shared their gratitude following the impressive $217 million global premiere of our superhero film.
Or:
Over the weekend, the joint leader of DC Studios posted a message expressing thanks after the record-breaking $217 million worldwide debut of our superhero movie.
Gunn expressed his heartfelt appreciation for your positivity and warm compliments these past few days,” he penned. “In Superman’s lengthy career, there has been no shortage of ‘Super’. However, I’m thrilled that we created a film that emphasizes the ‘man’ aspect – a character who is consistently compassionate and concerned for those in distress. It’s heartening to see so many people worldwide connect with this theme, which speaks volumes about the empathy and goodness present among humanity. Thank you.
The director wasn’t the only one expressing joy over the film; it marked a successful debut for Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamp of DC Studios, as acknowledged by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav who said in a statement, “Over the weekend, we witnessed Superman take flight as James Gunn’s enthusiasm and creativity unfolded on the silver screen. Superman is merely the beginning.
For the upcoming year, DC Studios has planned to debut movies like ‘Supergirl’ and ‘Clayface’ in cinemas, as well as the series ‘Lanterns’ on HBO Max. This is just a small part of their ambitious ten-year plan. The vision for DC is clear, the excitement is palpable, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Although Gunn expresses joy over Superman’s successful premiere, he had earlier mentioned that he wasn’t worried about the need to perform well financially due to “fatigue” surrounding superheroes in recent times.
Gunn previously stated that this venture isn’t the most hazardous one out there. While there is indeed something at stake, it’s not as substantial as some might suggest. The idea that the movie must earn $700 million or more to be successful is pure exaggeration. It doesn’t necessitate such grandiose expectations as people are implying.
In this production, it is David Corenswet who takes on the role of Clark Kent (a.k.a Superman), while Rachel Brosnahan portrays Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult assumes the character of Lex Luthor.
