Loki” Writer Confirmed for “Fantastic Four

In the script for “The Amazing Four: Initial Footsteps,” it’s confirmed that Loki is involved, and this is quite thrilling! This upcoming Marvel Studios film, helmed by Matt Shakman from “WandaVision,” will launch Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), leading towards the monumental crossover event: “Avengers: Armageddon.” Although they didn’t assist in the battle against Thanos because it took place on a different Earth, Marvel’s original superhero family, the Fantastic Four, will have significant roles in the impending confrontation with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Consequently, the movie could delve into connections to the Multiverse Saga much like how “Deadpool & Wolverine” utilized the Time Variance Authority (TVA) within their narrative.

As a die-hard film fan, I can’t help but be excited about the upcoming “Fantastic Four” movie. For it to truly shine, the story is paramount, and that’s where its strength lies. The script is penned by Eric Pearson, who recently worked on “Thunderbolts” and previously wrote “Black Widow” and “Thor: Ragnarok”. The team of Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, known for their work on Warner Bros.’ comedy “Disaster Wedding”, also contributed. Notably, the scribe of “Avatar: The Way of Water”, Josh Friedman, is involved too. The story credits also include Kat Wood, who wrote “Arthur & Martin”. It’s worth mentioning that a writer from “Loki” has been involved in shaping “The Fantastic Four’s” screenplay as well.

According to the Writers Guild of America West (WGAW), Michael Waldron, who served as head writer and producer for Loki Season 1, has been given credit under the Additional Literary Material (ALM) section of the script for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It’s also worth noting that Waldron contributed to the script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In a film production context, an ALM credit is given to writers who have contributed to WGA-covered services beyond the main screenplay. This can involve adding dialogue, creating scenes, supplying story ideas, revising parts, or offering creative suggestions – all of which are not part of the primary credited screenplay.

Michael Waldron is joined by other prominent MCU and TV writers in the ALM credit list:

  • Kathryn Blair (the executive story editor of Loki and Daredevil: Born Again)
  • Peter Cameron (Agatha All Along, Moon Knight, and WandaVision writer)
  • Matthew Chauncy (What If…? and Ms. Marvel scribe)
  • Andrew Guest (Hawkeye and Wonder Man)
  • Brian Lynch (The Secret Life of Pets and Minions: The Rise of Gru)
  • Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty and Star Trek: Lower Decks

Waldron’s inclusion on the list implies that he contributed to establishing the rules for the MCU’s multiverse, given his significant role in helping audiences comprehend this concept through his work on Loki Season 1 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The Incredible Four: Initial Journeys” features actors such as Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The Phase 6 film is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.

How the MCU’s Fantastic Four Movie Will Connect to the Multiverse

The relationship between “The Fantastic Four” and the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) remains a mystery for now. Some fans speculate that the post-credits scene in “Thunderbolts” might have given away the movie’s ending, as it depicted the team’s spaceship entering the MCU, but others are hesitant because they believe Dr. Doom is flying the ship instead of the team. However, there’s no question that eventually, the Fantastic Four will arrive on Earth-616, and the film will utilize the established Multiverse rules within the MCU to make this happen.

It goes without saying that Michael Waldron should be involved given his past successes in the Multiverse sphere. This doesn’t necessarily mean that “The Fantastic Four” will directly reference events from “Loki” or “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” but it could suggest that the film might utilize the Multiverse concept to deepen its connections with other projects within the MCU.

It was initially planned for Waldron to pen the script for “Avengers: Kang Dynasty,” but that project was put on hold to allow for “Avengers: Doomsday” instead. Since “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” could directly lead into “Doomsday,” it’s plausible that Waldron provided suggestions on how Matt Shakman’s movie would tie in with the upcoming Multiversal crossover event.

It’s worth noting that Waldron, who wrote the post-credits scene for Fantastic Four in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is a big fan of Marvel’s First Family. Additionally, it seems that he may have worked together with Shakman to portray the team and their abilities effectively on screen, as Waldron is also known for scripting Loki.
