Thunderbolts* Concept Art Shows Taskmaster Actor Was Telling the Truth

A fresh piece of concept art showcasing a new version of Thunderbolts has surfaced online, depicting the entire team leaping out simultaneously from what appears to be the old Avengers Headquarters. Notably, Olga Kurylenko’s Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster is also part of this collective scene, suggesting that Marvel Studios may have initially intended a different role for her character.

Thunderbolts, directed by Jake Schreier and written by Lee Sung Jin (with initial draft by Eric Pearson), is currently the top-rated film in Marvel’s Phase 5, boasting a Certified Fresh score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes after receiving positive reviews from 358 critics.

What does the new Thunderbolts* concept art mean?

According to concept artist Aleksi Briclot’s sharing, the original intention of Marvel Studios was to provide more screen time for Taskmaster in the Thunderbolts film. However, unexpectedly, the Black Widow character met an untimely end early on in the final version of the movie.

During an earlier conversation, Kurylenko discussed the numerous revisions that the movie “Thunderbolts” underwent during filming. Before the writers’ strike in 2023, the initial draft of the script depicted Taskmaster surviving throughout the entire film.

Originally, my character was portrayed as such in the first draft of the script, but by the end, it was an entirely different storyline. After the revisions, the script bore little resemblance to what I had initially understood. The changes included the concept, the narrative, and even the locations. Sadly, my character lost much of its original charm. It’s a shame; it was quite interesting at first.

Starting from July 29, you’ll be able to buy the newly released movie in various formats, including 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
