‘Bluey,’ BritBox International Help BBC Commercial Hit Record Revenue

In a tough economic climate, BBC Commercial – the commercial division largely managed by BBC Studios – announced enhanced financial results for the entire fiscal year on Tuesday. This improvement was fueled by various factors such as the enduring popularity of the family-favorite animated series Bluey, a diversified business portfolio, robust performance from BritBox International, and the success of its consumer products division, all contributing to the Bluey phenomenon.

The commercial wing of the BBC, responsible for generating income for the broader organization, announced that BBC Studios increased its earnings by 11% to £225 million ($303 million), even with investments in media and streaming content such as BBC.com and UKTV, both experiencing audience growth.

BBC Studios’ Global Media & Streaming department is the headquarters for the global streaming service BritBox International, which they fully own now. BBC Commercial stated that investments in digital platforms were crucial for achieving a 43% increase in revenues within their media and streaming sector last year. The revenues of BritBox International increased by 20% compared to the previous year, with popular British shows like “Ludwig” and “Blue Lights” attracting North American viewers.

In their yearly review, the company additionally highlighted the achievements of prominent brands like Bluey, asserting that these contributed significantly to the growth in sales from consumer goods.

Tom Fussell, CEO of BBC Commercial, stated that the company has shown outstanding performance in their recent results, demonstrating the effectiveness of our strategic approach and the returns from investments made earlier. This, combined with our varied collection, is propelling us towards a path of steady expansion, even amidst global economic and political turbulence,” said Tom Fussell, CEO of BBC Commercial. “Additionally, the ongoing acclaim for our content studio’s artistry and the worldwide appeal of our content position BBC Commercial favorably to foster a vibrant creative and entertainment sector and reinforce its status as a global representative of top-tier U.K. content.

In summary, BBC Commercial recorded a revenue of approximately £2.2 billion ($2.96 billion) for fiscal year 2024/2025, marking an increase from £1.9 billion in the preceding year. Additionally, its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) improved significantly, rising to £228 million ($307 million), up from £199 million in the previous fiscal year.
