For quite some time now, Salman Khan and Kabir Khan have collaborated on three movies together. Two out of those – Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan – turned out to be massive hits at the cinema. There’s been much talk about a potential reunion between Salman and Kabir. As we approach the 10th anniversary of Bajrangi Bhaijaan on July 17, TopMob had an engaging chat with Kabir Khan.
When queried about a possible reunion with Salman Khan, Kabir expressed that he maintains contact with all actors he’s collaborated with previously. He mentioned that they have teamed up for three films so far and often exchange creative ideas. If the opportunity arises, he would be thrilled to join forces with Salman once more, but only if the tale and script are compelling. They aim to reunite not just for industry hype, but because of a genuine connection with the narrative itself.
It appears that he has shared that negotiations for a reunion are currently taking place. He’s been exchanging many ideas for potential stories recently, and if one of these ideas proves successful, it might just be the news he announces soon, as he gave a knowing smile.
There’s some progress being made regarding the sequel to Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Kabir has mentioned that discussions have taken place, but nothing definitive has been agreed upon yet. Kabir stated, “We have indeed discussed the possibility of a Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2. Given the success of film franchises today, we’re being cautious about making a sequel to one of the most popular films from the last two decades just for the sake of it. Salman and I both concur that we need to find a story as compelling as Bajrangi Bhaijaan.”
Kabir stated, “We aren’t planning to create a film merely to capitalize on the success of the initial installment. We aim to preserve the charm of a masterpiece like Bajrangi Bhaijaan. If a compelling story arises – it could be today or in a year – we will certainly produce Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2. In the past, Kabir has expressed reservations about franchise productions. Nevertheless, for Bajrangi Bhaijaan, he is willing to make an exception.
Throughout my professional journey, I’ve never taken the path of sequels. However, I can imagine the delight that Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 could bring to viewers. If given the opportunity, I’d be thrilled to direct Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2, but under the right circumstances, not just for financial gain. My motivation wouldn’t be box office success, but to honor the revered legacy of Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
