Emmys Nominations Snubs: ‘Squid Game’ Shut Out, ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Only Lands One Nod — Uzo Aduba Surprises

2025 Emmy Awards overlooked several long-standing favorites by neglecting to give them nominations. Previous winners such as “Squid Game” and performers like Elisabeth Moss, Jon Hamm, Ted Danson were omitted from the list of nominees this year, along with previous nominees including “Yellowjackets” and Selena Gomez.

In the year 2022, Squid Game, a television series that earned six Emmys including the top honor for best drama actor (Lee Jung-jae) during its debut season, was surprisingly not nominated in any category for this year’s awards. However, since it has three more seasons planned, the third and final season of this popular Netflix show will be eligible for consideration in next year’s award ceremonies.

Much like The Handmaid’s Tale, this series was once highly esteemed by Emmy voters, earning numerous nominations in 2019 based on its cliffhanger episodes alone. Originally adapted from Margaret Atwood’s bestselling novel of the same name, which won the award for best drama series in its first season in 2017, it only received a single nomination for Cherry Jones’ guest role this time around, neglecting to recognize the rest of its esteemed cast, including lead actress Moss, who was also overlooked for a directing nomination.

Yellowjackets received ten nominations for its initial two seasons, but none for its recently concluded third season. Similarly, Jon Hamm, who had been frequently nominated for Mad Men prior to his 2015 win, failed to secure another nomination for his first leading role since Mad Men in Your Friends & Neighbors, which was only recognized for its theme song.

In addition, the following shows and actors were not nominated this year: “A Man on the Inside” (starring Ted Danson, a past Emmy winner), Ellen Pompeo for her role in “Good American Family”, previously nominated “The Morning Show”, as well as the critically acclaimed series “Running Point”, “St. Denis Medical”, and Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman”.

This year, some notable shows and actors missed out on nominations: “A Man on the Inside” (with Ted Danson), Ellen Pompeo in “Good American Family”, previously honored “The Morning Show”, the well-received series “Running Point”, “St. Denis Medical”, and Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman”.

Among those overlooked for Emmy nominations this year are: “A Man on the Inside” (Ted Danson), Ellen Pompeo in “Good American Family”, previously acknowledged “The Morning Show”, as well as popular series “Running Point”, “St. Denis Medical”, and Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman”.

Notable absences from the acting categories were Diego Luna, who was surprisingly omitted from the 14 nominations for Andor; Selena Gomez, despite her strong performance in Only Murders in the Building, did not receive a nomination this year, following her success in the acting category last year; the actors of Mountainhead, who were overlooked for nominations despite the Emmys’ previous support of Succession‘s writer-director Jesse Armstrong (the film itself was nominated for best TV movie); several actors from The White Lotus, including Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sam Nivola, Michelle Monaghan and Leslie Bibb, who were not recognized with nominations; Chase Sui Wonders, a standout from The Studio, despite the show’s 23 nominations; Rhenzy Feliz from The Penguin; Jacob Anderson of Interview With the Vampire; and Nicholas Alexander Chavez from Monsters.

In the category of talk series, only three nominations were given, excluding contenders such as “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” “Hot Ones,” and “Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney.” Additionally, neither Seth Meyers nor Jamie Foxx received recognition for their stand-up specials, “Dad Man Walking” and “What Had Happened Was,” respectively. Notably, Foxx’s Netflix special focused on his medical emergency.

Meghann Fahy’s nomination for Best Actress in a Limited Series came as a bit of a shock since Sirens, where she played her role, was not recognized in other categories or even nominated for the series itself. Similarly, Uzo Aduba’s nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in The Residence was unexpected because the show only had one season and then got cancelled. However, Aduba’s acting skills were highly praised, but it seems that the cancellation of the show might have played a role in this nomination being somewhat surprising.

Additionally, Hulu’s series “Paradise” received a higher number of nominations in key categories than what award pundits had anticipated. On the other hand, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino’s show “Étoile,” although distributed by Amazon Prime Video announced they wouldn’t be moving forward with a second season prior to the Emmy nominations voting, surprisingly managed to secure two nominations.
