Meet the 13-Year-Old Dog Stealing Hearts in Netflix’s ‘Too Much’!

Netflix’s series “Too Much” introduces a 13-year-old Chinese crested dog named Astrid who steals the limelight unexpectedly. The new series from the streaming service follows the life of Jessica “Jess” Salmon, who relocates to London seeking a new beginning following her split with her long-term partner, Zev. In an unforeseen turn of events, Jess finds herself in a budding relationship with Felix, a laid-back musician carrying emotional burdens. Despite the focus being on the potential relationships between these characters, Jess’ faithful ally amidst her challenges is none other than her dog, Astrid, whom she adopted post-breakup with Zev.

It’s evident that Astrid has an affinity for the limelight, as she effortlessly outshines others when in front of the camera. This role is played by Mia, a charming Chinese Crested Dog, who brings some intriguing details to light about herself on screen.

On the 10th of July, 2025, I had the pleasure of watching the premiere of “Too Much” on Netflix, a delightful romantic comedy series. As a movie enthusiast, I was thrilled to see Megan Stalter, Will Sharpe, Emily Ratajkowski, Michael Zegan, Andrew Rannells, Rhea Perlman, and Rita Wilson grace the screen in this production.

What Dog Breed is Mia? Bio Info Explained

Mia, who is a Chinese Crested Dog, belongs to Bev Nicholson. This lovely pooch was initially rescued in Kent, but now calls Peterborough, England her home.

13-year-old Mia is currently involved with Urban Paws Agency, and recently completed a four-month filming stint in London, even getting her very own trailer during the production.

Nicholson shared his thoughts on the filming process and Mia’s unexpected appearance at the premiere of “Too Much” with Peterborough Today. He expressed his surprise by saying, “It has truly taken me aback.

The debut event was truly exceptional and left us all astonished! To our surprise, she even had her very own trailer. Upon our arrival at 3 Mills Studios in London for filming, I presumed we’d be directed to a chair somewhere, but instead, we were escorted to our own trailer.

Mia’s owner also said that the Chinese Crested dog loves the spotlight too much:

“She has loved it, she loves the attention. It has been a great experience.”

Over the course of the first season, which consisted of 10 episodes for “Too Much”, Astrid proved indispensable as a source of emotional support for Jess. This was particularly evident when Jess discovered that Zev was engaged to someone else. Furthermore, this intelligent and poised dog, who happened to be hairless, formed a close bond with Felix. In fact, she was often seen in the background during their romantic escapades in London.

Mia Has Siblings

Mia isn’t the sole celebrity within her family, as acting runs in their bloodline. Besides her, she has two other siblings named Mugly and Muppet.

In 2012, Mia’s canine sibling, affectionately known as Mugly, was crowned the World’s Ugliest Dog and even made an appearance on the Today Show in New York City. Regrettably, Mugly passed away in 2018. Subsequently, another dog named Muppet stepped into the limelight by winning Britain’s Ugliest Dog title in 2024.

Mia is a Therapy Dog

Just like how Mia plays the character Astrid in Netflix’s series “Too Much,” she serves as a certified therapy dog for Therapy Dogs Nationwide in real life.

The Urban Paws Agency characterized Mia as a pet with an exceptional demeanor, always exhibiting calmness and maintaining a proficient attitude whether in the presence of many people or during filming.

What also made Mia stand out as the perfect therapy dog is her calm and friendly nature.

Too Much is Mia’s Breakout Role

In that very same interview with Peterborough Today, Bev Nicholson, Mia’s manager, reminisced about the significant moment when she learned about Mia landing her breakthrough role in the entertainment industry – a role that was more than just enough.

One day, after years of silence, I received an unexpected call inviting us to an audition. Initially unsure, given she was only 11, we decided to give it a try. To our surprise, we were cast in a project that lasted four months and even included a music video collaboration with Fergie!

Discussing Fergie, it’s worth mentioning that Mia made an appearance in the music video for her hit single “London Bridge,” which is notably included in the fantastic soundtrack of a Netflix series.

It appeared that Mia’s abundance of chances didn’t cease at that point; additionally, she landed a full-spread feature in British Vogue.

With a heart for the spotlight, Mia’s photographic possibilities are abundant, and she’s just warming up to more adventures.
