First-Time Nominee Cooper Koch Is “Devastated” Over Emmy Snubs for Two of His ‘Monsters’ Co-Stars

Cooper Koch has earned his initial Emmy nomination, playing Erik Menendez in Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” However, the news brings a mix of joy and sadness to the actor, as he had hoped that his co-stars Ari Graynor and Nicholas Alexander Chavez would also be recognized alongside him when this year’s Emmy nominees were revealed on Tuesday morning.

I had a conversation with Ari; I’m deeply saddened because she didn’t receive the recognition. It was disappointing not seeing her name on the list today, and it’s the same for Nicholas. I believe they both deserved to be nominated, so I’m very disheartened that they weren’t.

In the Netflix series “Monsters,” Chavez took on the role of Lyle Menendez, while Graynor played Leslie Abramson, Erik’s main defense attorney. Despite the lack of recognition for these two stars, the show still received acknowledgment in the acting categories. Specifically, Chloë Sevigny was nominated for best supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie due to her portrayal of Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, and Javier Bardem was recognized with a nomination for best supporting actor for his interpretation of Jose Menendez.

According to Koch, Chloë and I had a video call, and she congratulated me while I reciprocated. He went on to extol the virtues of his fellow cast members, stating that he wouldn’t have succeeded without any of them. They were exceptional scene partners, he said, and they are incredibly talented actors. In fact, he attributes all his work, scenes, and the final outcome to them.

28-year-old Koch is preparing for his Emmy promotions and expresses his wish that the focus shifts away from him and towards the Menendez brothers. The renewed interest in their case, sparked by a recent series, led to their resentencing in May to 50 years to life imprisonment, making them now eligible for parole.

Their case has gained renewed attention due to a series, which led to their resentencing to 50 years to life in prison in May. This new sentence now qualifies them for parole.

Koch is currently dealing with their case as it unfolds in real life. They have a hearing at the parole board on August 21st and 22nd, and he’s eagerly waiting for more information and to speak up on their behalf. Essentially, he’s putting his own needs aside and just wants them released from prison.

Mentioning this, Koch is eager to meet in person some of the gifted actors he’s long admired from the screen, including Aimee Lou Wood from “White Lotus” who is also a first-time Emmy nominee and has caught his attention specifically.

He expresses his affection for her, both personally and professionally in ‘White Lotus’. He’s eager to give her a warm embrace. It feels as if he’s already acquainted with her,” he shares, further mentioning ‘Only Murders in the Building’ and ‘Severance’ among his favorite shows besides these.

I’m really into the TV series ‘Severance’, and I must say, Adam Scott and Britt Lower have left me truly impressed across both seasons of the show. Honestly, they are actors I admire greatly, and I had a fantastic conversation with Adam during The Hollywood Reporter Roundtable. He’s an outstanding individual and an incredibly gifted performer, so I’m genuinely hoping for his success.

At a ceremony on July 15th, Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song announced the nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards. The miniseries “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” received a total of eleven nominations. Among these are nominations for best limited or anthology series, as well as three technical categories: picture editing, sound mixing, and musical composition. Furthermore, it was also nominated in four additional categories: best period or fantasy/sci-fi hairstyling and makeup (non-prosthetic), period costumes, and casting for a limited or anthology series.

On the evening of September 14th, I’ll be tuning in for the live broadcast of the 77th Emmy Awards, hosted by the hilarious Nate Bargatze!
