We Need a Good Superman for Injustice 3 After James Gunn’s Hit Movie

The influential DC’s “Injustice” series of games and comics has left a lasting mark on the broader DC Universe, shaping the DCEU before its transformation. With James Gunn at the helm, it seems that we can expect a more positive outlook in future DC films, with Superman serving as a remarkable illustration. Given the enduring popularity of “Injustice,” we believe that “Injustice 3” could bring excitement by offering a compelling portrayal of Superman.

Some might wonder if this spin-off series isn’t centered around Superman behaving uncharacteristically? Indeed, it was. But given that compassion is the new rebellion, we believe there’s room for modification while still producing a fresh DC fighting game with an underlying grittiness.

Superman returns? (to Injustice)

Players familiar with the initial Injustice game will recognize it as a tale set on Earth-2, where we witness benevolent iterations of our beloved heroes overthrow their malicious counterparts. The narrative concludes with our virtuous Superman vanquishing the tyrannical Superman, who can be seen as Ultraman with a sorrowful backstory.

Rather than following the multiverse theme in Injustice 2, they opted for a more cohesive narrative instead. However, reintroducing the multiverse could offer an opportunity to find a compelling Superman character suitable for the game.

An effective way to carry on the story would be by having “Injustice 3” pick up from Injustice 2’s dark conclusion, where a malevolent Superman rules his world, and Batman is under the influence of Brainiac’s technology. Given that Supergirl was poised for a leading role, she could escape her confinement and potentially encounter this virtuous version of Superman, who could assist in overthrowing this tyrant version of himself.

Evil Superman is officially lame

In more modern times, the concept of “Superman as a villain” has lost its appeal and feels uninteresting. Shows like The Boys and Invincible have already explored this idea thoroughly. It’s disappointing to see DC still leaning on this trope in their recent productions, but hopefully, they will move away from it soon.

The recently released “Superman” film has significantly refreshed this iconic character’s cool factor. However, “Injustice 3” could potentially take it a step further. By centering the narrative around a benevolent Superman battling an evil counterpart of himself, the storyline would be even more compelling, especially if the focus remains primarily on him.

Although the narratives in the Injustice games are engaging, they predominantly revolve around Batman and his perspective, with Supergirl occasionally taking center stage in Injustice 2. Given Batman’s extensive presence across DC media, it could be intriguing to see Superman take the limelight for a change. This shift could potentially serve as an appropriate conclusion for this series, if Warner Bros. chooses to end it. However, introducing a compelling Superman might actually extend the lifespan of the franchise.

New Superman?

Despite its flaws, the Injustice series doesn’t shy away from taking bold steps. Instead of relying on a conventional hero like Superman, they could introduce a character carrying on the legacy, restoring honor and dignity to the role once more.

Previously, we’ve observed comics featuring Superman’s son, Jon Kent, traveling to the Injustice world, but these weren’t met with favorable responses. Tie-in comics related to the game reveal that Conner Kent, also recognized as Superboy, is present in this universe and has adopted the role of Superman. However, he ended up in a different universe by the story’s end.

If everything else doesn’t work, they could always create a copy of him. Given the genre of this comic book video game, even Injustice 3 wouldn’t shy away from such an option.

A fresh start for Injustice 3

It’s been quite a while since the launch of Injustice 2, and to entice players for a third installment, we need something captivating. Since Superman is currently one of DC’s most popular characters following the movie, making him the protagonist for this game series could spark conversations among fans. The dynamic between Good Clark Kent and Evil Kal-El isn’t entirely innovative, but it might aid in the ongoing character rebranding process.
