Secret Wars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a recent announcement, the studio boss unveiled that viewers can anticipate a fresh group of mutants in the X-Men movie directed by Jake Schreier, after the convergence of timelines. This implies that Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Kelsey Grammer (the cast of the early 2000s and 2010s X-Men films) will not be reprising their roles in the upcoming film titled Avengers: Doomsday, as they won’t appear in the new standalone title.
In simpler terms, Feige stated through Variety that we’re using this [story] not only to complete the tales we’ve been spinning since ‘Endgame,’ but also significantly so for what lies ahead. If you delve into the ‘Secret Wars’ comics, you’ll see where this leads us. Essentially, ‘Endgame’ was about concluding things, while ‘Secret Wars’ is all about starting new adventures.
He mentioned that the X-Men comics have been a platform for narrating tales about youth who feel unique, alienated, and out of place. Essentially, he was saying that this is the common narrative of mutants in those comics, and it’s the direction they aim to take.
Feige mentioned that fresh actors will step into the roles of Tony Stark and Captain America/Steve Rogers, drawing a parallel with the resurrections of James Bond and Superman in movies. He stated, “That’s how it usually goes.” While he acknowledges that Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Chris Evans as Cap will hold a special place in fans’ hearts, bringing their characters back to life is possible. “I think it’s tough for anyone to fill the shoes of an actor who’s done such an exceptional job,” he added. “How can they ever replace Sean Connery as James Bond?” (This version aims to maintain the original meaning while making it easier and more engaging to read.)
In contrast to his previous appearances, Robert Downey Jr. will reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portraying the character of Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man. The movie, titled “Secret Wars,” is set to debut on December 17, 2027.
