Marvel Announces New Howard Stark Actor for Disney+ (And He’s a Big Star)

Disney+ has unveiled a fresh actor who will portray Tony Stark’s father, Howard Stark. Throughout the years, this pivotal character from Stark Industries has been brought to life by various notable actors. Fans of Marvel Cinatic Universe (MCU) might recall Gerard Sanders, John Slattery, and Dominic Cooper for their captivating performances as the character in blockbusters such as “Iron Man”, “Avengers: Endgame”, and “Captain America: Civil War”.

Recently, Disney+ has introduced a fresh perspective to the world of Marvel’s armored hero with the release of the animated series, “Iron Man and His Awesome Friends“. This new show, produced by the team behind “Spidey and His Amazing Friends “, presents an animated Tony Stark and his super-powered companions. This child-friendly approach offers a unique insight into the Iron Man mythos. The series also introduces new versions of several characters related to Iron Man (such as Amadeus Cho and Riri Williams), with Howard Stark set to join their ranks soon.

Disney has announced that the upcoming Marvel’s Iron Man and His Awesome series will feature a new character, who is none other than Howard Stark.

In the upcoming Disney+ preschool series, John Stamos – famously known for his role in “Full House” – will portray Iron Man’s inventor father. The show is set to premiere on Disney Jr. on Monday, August 11, with its streaming release on Disney+ following the next day, on August 12.

In simpler terms, “Iron Man and His Fantastic Pals” is the newest preschool-oriented series from Marvel, similar to the highly acclaimed “Spidey and His Incredible Companions.” This show focuses on a younger version of Tony Stark/Iron Man, along with his closest friends Riri Williams and Amadeus Cho. Together, they embark on adventures to combat evil, all while introducing young viewers to the vast Marvel universe.

The Future of Howard Stark at Marvel

John Stamos joining the cast of “Iron Man and His Awesome Friends” is quite a big deal! Although he’ll be lending his voice to the character Howard Stark, who’s well-known in the Marvel world, it’s important to note that this show is primarily meant for younger viewers. This series exists separately from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), so most of us adult fans may not get a chance to see John Stamos’ performance on screen.

It’s quite uncommon for Marvel Studios to bring back an actor like John Stamos to portray a variant from the Multiverse as Howard Stark within the MCU, given their recent history with the Multiverse.

In fact, at this point, Howard Stark coming back into the MCU seems highly unlikely.

It appears that the Iron Man saga as portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. within Marvel Studios’ shared cinematic universe has concluded, since his version of the character met his end in the 2019 film, Avengers: Endgame.

Indeed, Downey will reprise his role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday for next year, however, this time he will portray the antagonist, the menacing Doctor Doom character instead.

However, if there’s no Iron Man, played by Downey, or any Iron Man character, then Howard Stark seems less essential in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It’s possible that a Marvel Studios project might delve deeper into the backstory of a particular character, similar to how they expanded on Agent Carter in the series. At this moment, though, there are no such projects planned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
