As a cinephile eagerly anticipating the 2025 release of “Superman”, I can’t help but get excited about the blend of heart-pounding action and side-splitting humor it promises! Throughout the film, there are several hilarious running gags, one of which revolves around Lex Luthor’s girlfriend, Eve Teschmacher. The joke persistently suggests that Eve has peculiar toes, reminiscent of a mutant’s, with her digits even being compared to aged shrimp at one point. Now, the enigmatic James Gunn, both writer and director, is shedding light on whether this claim about Eve’s toes holds any truth.
In the DCU movie, it’s shown that Eve has been secretly sharing details about Lex’s business with Jimmy Olsen, whom she harbors romantic feelings for. However, Jimmy seems reluctant to get involved with Eve and appears uncomfortable due to something about her feet. This dislike is so pronounced that Jimmy labels Eve as “Mutant Toes” in his phone contacts. Throughout the film, the audience doesn’t get to see Eve’s feet. In a recent interview on Threads, James Gunn playfully hinted at a possible reveal of Eve’s toes as a spoiler.

The joke about toes was already amusing, but it becomes even funnier knowing that Jimmy seems to be exaggerating excessively. This could be nothing more than Jimmy being overly fussy as he searches for excuses not to get together with Eve. It’s quite amusing watching the charming Olsen go to great lengths to dodge Teschmacher’s advances, a beautiful woman who loves taking selfies. However, considering Jimmy’s history with women, it’s possible that he simply prefers to keep his options open.
Superman Flies High At The Weekend Box Office Again And Crosses A Big Milestone
Prior to the release of Superman, a promotional clip featuring the Daily Planet hinted that the Jimmy Olsen character from the DC Universe would be quite popular with women. This was indicated by a photograph on his desk showing him affectionately surrounded by several attractive young women. It’s amusing to note that Jimmy himself, portrayed excellently by Skyler Gisondo, attempts to play it down. However, just like Lois Lane, I can’t help but wonder, “how do you manage it,” Jimmy?
In the movie, it appears that Olsen’s charm has captured Eve, who remains attached to him, both figuratively and literally, until the film’s conclusion. Sara Sampaio, portraying Teschmacher in the film, discussed with TopMob the reason for Eve’s obsession with Jimmy. According to Sampaio, Eve is somewhat discombobulated by Jimmy because he’s the first person to say ‘no’ when she needs to hear it, and this shakes her character up. Additionally, Sampaio describes Olsen as a “short king” but finds him endearing.

It’s hard to dispute the idea that Jimmy Olsen is a kind character within the DC Universe (as well as in numerous comics, movies, and TV shows). What makes it even more intriguing is his oddly humorous revulsion towards Eve, particularly her toes. Although it appears that Eve may have won Jimmy’s heart at the end of Superman, there’s still some uncertainty. I can’t wait to see what happens next for them, and, naturally, I’m also curious if Jimmy will ever acknowledge that Eve’s toes don’t resemble shrimp in appearance.
