HBO Max Hires ITV’s Sasha Breslau and Amazon’s Alessandro Volpato to Lead Acquisitions in U.K., Italy

Warner Bros. Discovery has chosen Sasha Breslau and Alessandro Volpato to oversee content procurement for HBO Max in the UK & Ireland and Italy, respectively, as the company readies the streaming service’s initial launch in several European countries, slated for early 2026.

In October 2025, Breslau will take up the position of Vice President for Content Acquisitions in the UK and Ireland. She will report directly to Ragnhild Thorbech, who is the SVP of Programming & Acquisitions for EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). Her responsibilities will involve managing content sourcing, rights negotiations, and strategic partnerships for programming. She will also play a significant role in shaping HBO Max’s regional strategy and creating a varied selection of HBO Originals, Max Originals, Warner Bros. Pictures titles, DC Studios content, and TNT Sports programming.

In his new role as Head of Acquisitions for Italy, Volpato will work under Joana Silva, Vice President of Programming & Acquisitions. Based in Milan, he will be responsible for negotiating with local and European studios and distributors, and will also collaborate with the wider EMEA acquisitions team on multi-regional projects across Europe.

Breslau transitions to WBD after spending two decades at ITV, where she held the position of Head of Content Acquisitions in her last role. She played a significant part in the creation of ITVX and ITVX Premium, managing the licensing of over 8,000 hours of content. Among her acquisitions were hit titles like Love & Death, The Twelve, One Tree Hill, and The Originals, which all performed exceptionally well on the platform, as well as the Oprah with Meghan & Harry special, ITV’s most-watched non-sport broadcast since 2018. Additionally, she negotiated multi-year deals with Disney for Family Guy and American Dad.

Volpato moves on from Prime Video & Amazon Studios, where he served as a Senior Manager for Content Acquisition. His responsibilities encompassed a range of original Italian productions, including “Pesci Piccoli”, “Sconfort Zone”, and “Sono Lillo”, as well as international titles such as “Those About to Die”. Prior to this role, he was an executive at Warner Bros. International TV Distribution in London, and has also held strategic positions at Discovery Italia. Additionally, he co-founded the cultural non-profit organization, CinemaItaliaUK.

The appointments are taking place as HBO Max is speeding up its global expansion. After a relaunch in July 2025 that added the service to 12 new regions, HBO Max is now accessible in more than 90 countries. Its launch in the UK and Ireland, scheduled for early 2026, will happen around the same time as the expiration of WBD’s content deal with Comcast-owned pay-TV group Sky, making HBO Max the exclusive regional hub for its prominent shows.
