Typically, when Marvel Studios doesn’t hold a panel at a convention, it tends to result in a less electrifying experience. There’s usually less of that ‘rock-star’ buzz and fewer major announcements like last year’s unveiling of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. However, despite Marvel not attending this year’s Comic-Con, the schedule still seems quite packed. (All the presentations listed below will take place in Hall H.)
South Park (July 24, 6:45 p.m.)
Trey Stone and Matt Parker, the masterminds behind South Park, speak candidly, especially with a new panel discussion happening in the midst of their $3 billion dispute over the series’ future. Fans eagerly await them voicing their frustrations about Skydance, who they accuse of delaying season 27 by allegedly holding up the deal between Paramount and Skydance.
The Long Walk (July 25, 3 p.m.)
This upcoming ensemble of promising new talents, featuring Cooper Hoffman and breakout star David Jonsson from “Alien: Romulus”, could make this film a modern-day equivalent of “The Outsiders”. However, what truly sets it apart is not just its talented cast, but the unique way Lionsgate will market it. The subject matter of the movie – a competition where men must maintain a pace of at least 4 miles per hour or face being shot – is so contentious that New Line Cinema relinquished the rights to Stephen King’s novel years ago.
Alien: Earth (July 25, 1:25 p.m.); Predator: Badlands (July 25, 4:15 p.m.)
Following several years of being perceived as lesser-valued properties, both Predator and Alien have experienced a revival, primarily due to the 2022 hit series Prey on Hulu and Alien: Romulus from last year. Now, Predator makes its comeback at Hall H with Dan Trachtenberg’s next project following Prey, while Alien features the highly anticipated Noah Hawley show. The parent company Disney is heavily involved in this convention, presenting Jared Leto’s Tron: Ares at Hall H at 5:30 p.m. on July 25.
Star Trek Universe (July 26, 12:30 p.m.)
Paramount+ is presenting its classic geeky franchise for a typical 90-minute panel showcasing the upcoming “Starfleet Academy” live-action series and the beloved “Strange New Worlds”. Given that it was just announced this series will conclude, this event could carry added significance.
Project Hail Mary (July 26, 2:15 p.m.)
For the first time in almost a decade, Ryan Gosling is back at Comic-Con, presenting his grand science fiction production this time around. Notably, “Spider-Verse” veterans Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing for the first time since 2014 with this film as well.
Peacemaker (July 26, 3:30 p.m.)
James Gunn arrives for a Superman victory lap to preview season two of his series.
George Lucas (July 27, 11 a.m.)
Surprisingly, the creator behind “Star Wars” has never attended the convention. However, that’s about to change this year as he teams up with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and Doug Chiang, who worked on the “Star Wars” prequels, for a special preview of the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
