In the world of Pocket Gamer, Meteorfall: Rustbowl Rumble is the most recent addition to a series that’s been quite well-received. Catherine found Meteorfall: Krumit’s Tale enjoyable, and the original received positive feedback from our App Army. With two successful entries under their belt, we wonder if Slothwerks can maintain their winning streak. To answer this question, we gave Rustbowl Rumble to our trusted App Army for a test run.
Here’s what they said:

Meteorfall: Rustbowl – A deck-building and tactical card battle roguelike with a humorous twist, featuring hand-drawn artwork, lively animations, and catchy tunes. The game’s terms, such as items, hero abilities like strength, dexterity, faith, combos, and their effects, are quickly grasped within minutes. Expect numerous defeats initially, but each playthrough will feel like a step forward. Although it may not bring anything groundbreaking to the genre, Meteorfall: Rustbowl is still an enjoyable game worth trying out.

Meteorfall: Rustbowl Rumble is a game where you play a rogue-like card battle within the Meteorfall universe. During battles on a straightforward grid, your team takes turns clashing with the opponent’s team. You can attack and defend by employing cards that bestow your team with distinct abilities. As you advance, you can enhance cards and discard those that aren’t helpful to you.
As a beginner in the Meteorfall world, I encountered a challenging learning process. Although the tutorial provided some assistance, it wasn’t entirely sufficient. The complexity quickly escalated when wild cards came into play, leaving me feeling somewhat disoriented during gameplay. This confusion unfortunately dampened my overall enjoyment of the game. Visually, the cartoonish graphics are appealing, albeit a bit peculiar. Meteorfall isn’t a game I found particularly enjoyable to play.

This game boasts beautiful visual effects, melodious soundtracks, and engaging voice-overs that I find quite captivating. The character designs are fantastic as well. It’s a card brawler, which is relatively new to me, so I’m not fully grasping its intricacies yet. However, it’s incredibly addictive and keeps me coming back for more, even though I’ve been defeated a few times and have managed to triumph as well. I believe that with time, I will reach a point where I can consistently win, only to be defeated again and then crave another run.
In simpler terms, you can enhance characters and acquire additional cards to advance in your gameplay. I’m still figuring out the game’s strategy, but I find it quite enjoyable thus far. It’s definitely a game I’ll play when waiting for the bus or during train rides. Worthy recommendation!

Meteorfall Rustbowl Rumble boasts vibrant visuals, lively sound effects, and animations that capture the spirit of the Meteorfall series. However, despite its appeal, I found it a bit overwhelming due to my preference for calm atmospheres in roguelike and deck building games, which typically feature calming music and a streamlined interface. In essence, this game might be too chaotic for me, but fans of the franchise should enjoy this fresh addition to the series.

Following an average setup scene that lays out the narrative and key characters, the action shifts to the combat arena. M: RR is a game that combines troop deployment tactics with card-based combat. The mechanics are straightforward to grasp initially, but require significant practice to fully master. Since it’s turn-based, you have ample opportunity to position your heroes strategically and decide which cards to employ.
During attacks, animations move quickly, making it simple to monitor statuses like poison or freeze. After each fight, you can enhance your deck, characters, and strategize for the next battle. The game offers plenty of content to explore, master, and its roguelike structure ensures a lengthy playtime. It’s recommended if you’re looking for a less intense alternative to Slay the Spire.

I’m really enjoying Meteorfall; it doesn’t fail to impress. It’s a delightful and engaging card game with some unique elements, such as wild cards, attack sequences, and additional features not explained in the tutorial. Although it can be quite challenging, the animation keeps me hooked and eager to continue. The unique twists also ensure that it remains fresh and interesting. Card game enthusiasts, particularly Meteor Fall fans, will find it hard to resist.

Meteorfall: Rustbowl Rumble combines deck-building, roguelike elements, and turn-based combat in a captivating game that echoes the colorful art style of Adventure Time. The gameplay is engaging, with a unique blend of card-based battles, unpredictable wild cards, and crowd-pleasing maneuvers resulting in exciting, replayable skirmishes. The interplay between characters and cards encourages inventive strategies, making it enjoyable to experiment.
This game offers a high degree of replayability due to its initial lineup of 3 heroes (5 more to unlock, totaling 8), diverse battle sequences, and content that can be unlocked; each playthrough feels unique. The game encourages learning through setbacks, ensuring advancement feels rewarding without resorting to unnecessary difficulty reductions. Players who enjoy Slay the Spire or Balatro will appreciate both its familiar mechanics and fresh innovations.
The tutorial doesn’t cover mechanics such as crowd challenges and Wild Card utilization in detail, leaving new players to potentially struggle during their first fight. Additionally, the game’s difficulty may suddenly increase in challenging areas, especially against Uberlich, which might seem unbalanced. However, this game is highly recommended for roguelike enthusiasts who are looking for a thrilling, replayable gaming experience.
