As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to see that Hollywood’s box office revival is undeniably fueling IMAX’s success. This was evident in the impressive financial reports for the second quarter, which IMAX unveiled just yesterday.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share some financial news from my favorite gaming company, Imax. In the recent quarter, we raked in an impressive $91.7 million, marking a 3% increase compared to the same period last year when we made $89 million. Not only that, but our net income skyrocketed by 139%, jumping from $5.1 million to a whopping $12 million! To top it off, our adjusted earnings per-share soared to 26 cents, surpassing last year’s 18 cents. It’s clear that Imax is on a roll and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this gaming giant!
In Q2 of 2024, Imax sold their original documentary titled “The Blue Angels”. During this quarter, Imax films such as “F1: The Movie”, “Sinners” directed by Ryan Coogler, and “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” were box office hits for the company. These blockbusters were all captured using Imax cameras to maximize their impact on the large screen.

In a statement prior to a discussion about the company’s recent financial performance, Imax CEO Rich Gelfond noted that the second quarter was exceptionally successful for us. The main factors contributing to our success were harmonious operation across our business areas, global expansion of our network, extraordinary box office earnings in North America, and significant market share advancements due to a higher number of films using our technology than ever before.
Gelfond added that the current third quarter for the company was off to a “very strong start.”
In the most recent three months, IMAX achieved its all-time highest earnings at the North American box office with a total of $143 million. During the second quarter globally, the box office revenue amounted to an impressive $281 million.
Imax expects to deliver a record $1.2 billion in global box office in 2025.
