The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is now a finely tuned production engine, consistently dishing out fresh content in both cinemas and on streaming platforms like Disney+. While long-time fans have enjoyed following the Marvel films sequentially since 2008 with “Iron Man”, the newer generations either weren’t born or were very young when it all started. This was also true for Kevin Feige’s son, who recently discovered the MCU through an unanticipated entry point.
Despite many Marvel fans eagerly awaiting news on upcoming movies, Kevin Feige’s son hadn’t previously shared this level of enthusiasm. However, in an interview with The Wrap, Feige admitted he pretended to be interested in a supportive manner. This all changed when they started playing the video game “Marvel Rivals”, which he described as transforming his son’s viewpoint.
All of a sudden, he wanted to know more about Hela. He also asked for information on The Punisher and some other characters. Later, he began searching for them in various series instead.
Instead of inheriting his love for the Marvel Cinematic Universe because of his famous father, it seems like young Feige developed his geekiness naturally. So, instead of consuming the shared universe’s TV shows and movies, Mr. Feige’s son discovered Marvel through the game Marvel Rivals. And since I’m a player of that game myself, I can understand why he was drawn to it.

With Disney+, you can immerse yourself in the Marvel universe. The service offers an ad-supported plan starting at just $9.99 per month. For an ad-free experience, you can opt for the monthly price of $15.99 or take advantage of a 16% discount by pre-paying annually for $159.99. Check it out now! [View Deal]
Marvel’s Rivals game debuted in December, boasting an extensive roster of comic book characters, both heroes and villains. This free-to-play title offers a multiversal narrative that isn’t directly linked to the events depicted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, you can buy character skins inspired by costumes from movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Thunderbolts, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and others.

As Kevin Feige’s son became curious about Marvel characters due to playing Rivals, it’s interesting to note that several beloved characters haven’t been introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. Characters such as Jeff The Land Shark, Squirrel Girl, and Luna Snow are prominent in the game, along with fan favorites like Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Scarlet Witch, and others.
I’d love to have been a bystander during those chats between dad and son, geeking out about Marvel characters together. It seems like Feige’s son is mainly controlling Hela and the Punisher these days, but who knows? He might be playing with different heroes now, especially since he’s delved into MCU production. As for me, I usually go with Invisible Woman, Mantis, and Psylocke in my game.
“You can start playing Marvel Rivals right now, free of charge, though additional in-game purchases are an option. The upcoming movie installment within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is “The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps,” set to premiere on July 25th, 2025. In the near future, it’s anticipated that the playable heroes from this film will receive skins inspired by the MCU in Marvel Rivals.
