Captain America 4 Removed This Weird Supervillain (Photos)

In the upcoming film “Captain America: Brave New World,” Marvel Studios decided to omit one of its most unusual villains, which could have been a wise choice. The story primarily revolves around Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk and Tim Blake Nelson’s Leader, with Anthony Mackie’s Captain America engaging in fierce battles against the Serpent (also known as the Serpent Society). This is Captain America’s first solo theatrical adventure, where he clashed with Giancarlo Esposito’s Seth Voelker, who leads the mercenary group known as Sidewinder. Initially, it was speculated that the Serpent would have even more members in their live-action debut, but that seems to be a change from the original plans.

The book has been released and unveiled concept art for an unusual cyborg antagonist, which unfortunately didn’t make it into the final cut. Initially, professional wrestler Seth Rollins was slated to portray Cobra, also known as King Cobra, in “Captain America 4“. However, during reshoots, his role was scrapped, and it seems that he was intended to sport a cybernetic design that might have been too gruesome for the big screen.

Artist Keith Christensen discussed the intricate snake-like form of Cobra in the Captain America 4 artbook, revealing that they aimed to embody the characteristics of a cobra through the cybernetics initially intended for him.

Let’s consider how we might attribute the characteristics of a cobra, taking into account any advanced features it may possess, since at that time we were envisioning serpents as incorporating technology, approaching a state where a significant part of them was more like artificial intelligence or robotics.

He explained that the design evolved into something very symbolic, visualizing it as if he were a cobra shedding its skin.

I chose a very precise interpretation, imagining a cobra flaring its hood and contemplating the ability for its entire form to transform in a similar manner.

In a recent update, Scooper MyTimeToShineHello clarified the initial blueprint for Captain America 4’s antagonists, the Serpent Society. It was confirmed that the technological enhancements were intended to be provided by Alden Ehrenreich’s character, Zeke Stane, from Disney+’s series Ironheart.

As a supporter, I can share that although I didn’t get to see Cobra in Captain America 4 on the big screen as initially planned, it seems that scenes featuring Seth Rollins as the villain were filmed. However, during reshoots, these scenes were replaced with Giancarlo Esposito’s Sidewinder taking over the role instead.

In a subsequent development, it was found that Cobra sported an alternative appearance, with his entire form concealed, likely to mask his unsightly cybernetic components that would become visible once he discards this camouflage as the activity commences.

Initially, Captain America 4 intended to feature characters like Diamondback, King Cobra, and others belonging to the Serpent Society. However, only Sidewinder and Copperhead from this group will be present in the actual film as depicted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The popular dystopian series “Brave New World” is now available on Disney+ following its theatrical debut in February. It features a talented cast including Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Harrison Ford, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, and Xosha Roquemore.

Why Captain America 4 Had to Cut This Cyborg Villain

In Captain America 4, the Serpent Society didn’t acquire cybernetics or superpowers; instead, they were depicted as highly skilled and well-equipped mercenaries. According to producer Nate Moore, the change in direction for the Serpent Society was inspired by the tonal shift seen in Brave New World.

Initially, there were suggestions to base the concepts in a less outrageous reality than typical in publishing, while retaining intriguing outlines. Some of these designs are quite impressive. However, as we focused on the film and aimed for a more authentic political thriller, we discovered that even these attempts seemed excessively dramatic for the beginning of the movie.

Although it’s impossible to visualize King Cobra in live-action, his concept art seems rather grotesque and might be better off not included due to the potentially excessive gore for a PG-13 rating. In other words, the shifting cybernetic implants resembling snakes might have been overly disturbing for such a family-friendly audience.

Although Seth Rollins has been confirmed as a villain in Captain America 4, his MCU debut is yet to occur. Possibly, when the Serpent Society reappears, the WWE icon may have another chance to team up against King Cobra with Giancarlo Esposito’s Sidewinder once more.
