As a gamer with over two decades of Disney fandom under my belt, I must admit, I’ve seen my fair share of animated and live-action Disney remakes. From Cinderella to Aladdin, each has had its own unique charm and flaws. The latest rumor floating around the Disneyverse is that Michael Gracey, the man behind the magical musical spectacle “The Greatest Showman,” is in negotiations to direct the live-action version of “Tangled.
This upcoming holiday season, the second live-action version of “The Lion King” featuring Mufasa will be released by Walt Disney Studios. Behind the scenes, they are reportedly preparing for more live-action Disney remakes, with “Tangled” from 2010 being the next one on their list. Although a part of me rolls my eyes at another remake from Disney, I find the director in negotiations to be quite an innovative choice.
The Director Is In Negotiations For Tangled
Michael Gracey, who first directed The Greatest Showman in 2017, is said to be discussing taking charge of the live-action adaptation of Tangled, according to Deadline. Although details about the film have been scarce so far, it was only a matter of time, wasn’t it? It has been reported that the studio has been developing this project for more than a year now, with discussions about who would play Rapunzel, and Zachary Levi expressing interest in playing Flynn Rider. Additionally, fans have expressed their desire for cameos from both Levi and Mandy Moore in a remake.
It’s said that the remake of the movie “Tangled” is also being penned by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, a writer known for crafting strong comedies such as “Someone Great“, “Unpregnant“, and “Do Revenge“, and collaborating with Taika Waititi on the script for “Thor: Love And Thunder“.
While I’m Not Over The Moon About Another Remake, I’m Excited About This Possible Hire For One Big Reason
As a lover of Disney, I’m always intrigued when they start working on remakes. However, given their mixed success with these films, I’m unsure about Tangled being the next one to be remade. After all, it’s relatively new, only being around 15 years old, so I question why an update is needed when compared to classics like Snow White or Peter Pan.
Hey there! If the Disney live-action train’s momentum can’t be halted, Michael Gracey seems like a fantastic choice. I’ve got to say, I’m thrilled that Disney is considering him as the director, given his knack for creating stunning musical and dance sequences, evident in The Greatest Showman. I truly believe he can bring the live-action Tangled to life, focusing on its extraordinary music in a way that makes it feel like a grand Hollywood musical production.
The classic Disney animation “Tangled” boasts one of the studio’s most heartwarming romantic scenes with “I See The Light.” Personally, I believe the film features a fantastic couple, making it intriguing to witness their chemistry unfold. However, what truly captivates me is the musical aspect of the movie, and I have faith that director Michael Gracey can deliver a powerful emphasis on this element.
