A Marvel Beat ’Em Up by the Masters of the Genre Is Coming This Year

Many fans might have been left feeling let down by the March 27 Nintendo Direct event. However, it did unveil an exciting new beat ’em up game titled “Marvel Cosmic Invasion,” which is being developed by Tribute Games, the same team behind “TMNT Shredder’s Revenge.

For a launch in the Holiday season of 2025, Cosmic Invasion appears to be a nostalgic journey reminiscent of when Marvel games ruled the arcades. In this game, the villain Annihilus initiates a massive assault on the universe, causing Marvel superheroes to scatter across various planets in response.

In various locations ranging from the streets of New York to the Negative Zone, you’ll have the chance to embody characters like Nova, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Phyla-Vell, Captain America, and several others. Publisher Dotemu has verified that there will be at least 15 playable characters in total.

In the trailer, innovative gameplay features such as the Cosmic Swap tag-team system were highlighted. This system allows you to combine attacks on enemies, reminiscent of Marvel vs Capcom, by switching between two playable characters at any point during the game. Additionally, four-player cooperative gameplay was demonstrated, a common aspect of this genre.

Established by ex-Ubisoft team members who were behind the beloved Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game, Tribute collaborated with publisher Dotemu for Shredder’s Revenge. This partnership resulted in a beat ’em up game that became popular among fans due to its unique blend of style and substance, setting it apart from being just a game capitalizing on nostalgia.

Marvel’s ongoing strategy of collaborating with publishers and game creators who can enhance their intellectual properties within the gaming sector seems to be a success, and it appears that Cosmic Invasion could be another significant triumph for both the company and its enthusiasts.

This upcoming Marvel Cosmic Invasion game is scheduled for launch this holiday season! You can expect it on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC through Steam. Unfortunately, a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet, so stay tuned with Gfinity as we’ll provide you all the latest updates before its debut.
