A New Bridgerton Trend Is Happening At Weddings, And After Seeing It Firsthand I'm All In On This Being A New Tradition

As a seasoned gamer of life who’s been to more weddings than I care to count, I must admit that the recent trend of orchestral covers at weddings, inspired by shows like Bridgerton, is quite delightful and refreshingly unexpected. It’s as if we’re all living in an alternate reality where pop songs from the 80s mingle with the grace and elegance of a Regency ballroom.

Ah, we’re right in the midst of wedding season! With my twenties behind me, it seems like I’ve been invited to another wedding at least once a year, making me something of a seasoned attendee, if you will. And the latest nuptials I attended incorporated a subtle tribute to one of Netflix’s finest shows, and they’re not the only ones. It appears that drawing inspiration from the Regency-era series “Bridgerton” is quickly becoming a popular trend for couples.

At my cousin’s wedding this month, while waiting for the ceremony to start, an orchestral rendition of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses played over the speakers. For a brief moment, it felt like I was in a scene from Bridgerton. The show is known for its orchestral covers of pop songs, and it seems that more weddings are incorporating similar music into their ceremonies nowadays.

According to an article in The Guardian, cellist Jay Émme, who performs at weddings and events, has noticed a surge in requests for songs from “Bridgerton’s” soundtrack and modern song arrangements since the show became popular on Netflix. For instance, one of their clients requested a fusion of the traditional bridal march with Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September.”

In addition to this, it was mentioned that there’s an abundance of Taylor Swift tunes at today’s weddings, which shouldn’t come as a shock given her widespread fame and the frequent use of her music in the hit series Bridgerton. To illustrate, during Season 3’s second part, we correctly predicted that “You Belong With Me” was chosen for Penelope and Colin’s wedding song.

It’s quite logical that people have suggestions for which artists should grace orchestral covers in future seasons, similar to Bridgerton Season 4. Consequently, it seems fitting that couples would transform their special days into personalized Bridgerton-style episodes, complete with orchestral renditions of contemporary music. Furthermore, here’s what Émme had to say about this growing trend:

Giving it an elegant feel is the effect. There’s just something special about live string instruments and classical music at a wedding – many people don’t get to experience live music frequently, but they still yearn to hear their beloved classics. It’s all about revitalizing those old favorites.

At my cousin’s wedding, when I listened to their unique choice for an orchestral remake, it wasn’t just that I enjoyed its Bridgerton-like ambiance, but it also skillfully showcased their couple identity without just amplifying the original song. It was as if I was attending a romantic wedding ceremony, yet there was a hint of ’80s rock before the couple exchanged their vows.
