As a fervent admirer of both A.P.C.’s innovative approach to fashion and the captivating artistry of Jessica Ogden, I find myself utterly enamored by their latest collaboration – the 26th installment of the Jessica Ogden Quilt Collection. The inspiration drawn from the vibrant hues and intricate patterns found in butterfly wings is not only visually striking but also deeply personal, as it echoes the rich family history of the collection’s muse, Ms. Jessica Ogden herself.
Working alongside textile artist Jessica Ogden, A.P.C. carries on its recycling project, transforming materials from past collections into exclusive, handcrafted quilts using a unique upcycling method.
For the 26th part of their continuous project, Ogden and Jean Touitou, founder of A.P.C., continue their shared journey into non-traditional quilt designs, focusing on the distinctive colors and patterns found in butterfly wings. The collection is categorized into seven sections based on natural butterfly color schemes, with each model’s name referencing a particular butterfly species.
The vibrant, tropical motifs from Ogden’s campaign were based on actual photos taken in Jamaica, where his family settled for work in the late 60s. At that time, Ogden’s grandmother had created a series of greeting cards adorned with butterflies for a community-focused organization she was involved with, thanks to her mother’s work. This heartfelt tale provided the inspiration behind the new collection.
In this set of designs, the intricate quilt patterns subtly suggest the silhouettes of butterflies. Each area features a unique color scheme: one group exhibits soft, understated tones, while another showcases vibrant blues and floral motifs. Elsewhere, a monochrome palette is punctuated by striking splashes of red.
The 26th round of Jessica Ogden’s Quilt Collection by A.P.C. is now up for grabs on their online store and in their brick-and-mortar outlets.
