Union LA and Jordan Brand are planning to revive their popular split-styled Air Jordan 1 collaborations from 2018, with a new “Varsity Red” colorway expected by late February. Before this upcoming release, a fresh, never-before-seen fourth colorway has been unveiled. This unreleased pair, possibly a sample, continues the partnership’s signature blend of classic Air Jordan 1 colors, combining aspects of the “UNC” and “Royal” editions.
Matt “Shoe Hefner” Jae shared an image of the new design, which recalls a classic layout by featuring a black-and-blue “Royal” collar accent above a white and powder blue upper, along with weathered midsoles and a powder blue outsole. Distinct features include a suede collar, reminiscent of the original 1985 Air Jordan 1s (as leather collars weren’t introduced until its first retro release in 1994), prominent stitching below the collar as a tribute to the shoe’s “Frankenstein” design, and a custom tongue label.
Currently, there hasn’t been any formal announcement about whether this partnership will hit the stores or if it’s just a preliminary idea. Yet, given Jordan Brand’s plans to mark the 40th anniversary of the Air Jordan 1 in 2025, it’s quite possible that we might witness its launch around that time.
