AAA Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG Officially Announced

As a lifelong fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, I can hardly contain my excitement over the recent announcement of a prequel game! Growing up with Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko’s adventures, the world of the Four Nations has always felt like a second home to me. So, you can imagine my joy when I heard that Avatar Studios was teaming up with Paramount Games and Saber Interactive to bring us a new game set in this beloved universe!

For quite some time now, since the popularity of “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” fans have been eagerly demanding that a game developer create an open-world RPG where players can explore the Four Nations.

It’s been reported that Avatar Studios has been developing a project. Upon its initial launch several years ago, there were hints that it might be an ATLA-themed game, and recent indications suggest that they are indeed following through with their plans.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Prequel Game Announced

According to IGN’s report, Avatar Studios is collaborating with Paramount Games and Saber Interactive (known for projects like Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered and World War Z: Aftermath) to develop a high-quality game based on the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Initially, it was believed that players would confront Firelord Ozai as Aang in the game. However, an unexpected Avatar is now the focus, with the story unfolding a millennium before the events depicted in “The Last Airbender”. The developers promise an immersive journey where you’ll learn to control all four elements, fight alongside allies, and grapple with the responsibilities and choices that come with maintaining balance in the world.

While no formal concept art or visuals have been shared yet, it’s plausible that the game might be launched within the following two years, given the recent announcement.

Who could the Game be About?

Although Aang and Korra were the characters who garnered the greatest amount of attention from the franchise, other characters also had their moments in the limelight. Aang’s mentor was none other than Avatar Roku, while fans have put together a collection of tales featuring Avatars Kiyoshi, Kuruk, and Yangchen.

Korra initially presented the first Avatar, known as Wan. Although we know about his origins, there’s a significant time span between when he gained his powers, passed away, and was subsequently reborn as the next Avatar in the cycle. This period remains largely unexplored.

From what fans understand, Avatar has been around for ten thousand years. Thus, setting a story a millennium before ATLA suggests that the Four Nations in this Avatar’s world might bear a striking resemblance to the one Aang grew up in. However, it’s also plausible that this prequel could present a world drastically different from what we know, given the significant transformations that occurred within the hundred years Aang spent frozen.

It’s possible that Ba Sing Se or Omashu, two cities, haven’t been constructed yet. It would be intriguing to explore how the Air Nomads managed their lifestyle, given that they were nomadic and primarily traveled the globe using airbending, interacting with various other nations.
