Aamir Khan led Dangal reminds Taiwan Olympic legend Chen Shih-hsin of her own life

As an ardent fan of Aamir Khan, I am absolutely thrilled to learn about the striking similarities between his role in Dangal and the real-life experiences of Taiwan Olympic legend Chen Shih-hsin. The film, which remains a pinnacle achievement in Aamir’s illustrious career, is not only a testament to his acting prowess but also showcases an inspiring tale of determination and grit.

As an obsessed fan, I can’t help but rave about Dangal being among the finest works in Aamir Khan’s illustrious filmography. This masterpiece not only reigns supreme as his highest-grossing production to date within India, but it also left indelible marks on the global box office. In fact, Dangal surpassed numerous Indian films by an impressive margin in various international territories, cementing its status as a groundbreaking cinematic achievement.

The 2016 biographical sports film tells the true story of Mahavir Phogat, a wrestler from India, and his daughters Geeta and Babita, who rose to international fame as India’s first elite female wrestlers. Now, there are reports that Chen Shih-hsin, a legendary Taiwanese Olympian, has discovered that the movie’s plot bears striking resemblances to her own experiences.

Chen Shih-hsin finds a resemblance of her life with Dangal’s story

Chen Shih-hsin, Taiwan’s first Olympic gold medalist, once watched Aamir Khan’s leading role in Dangal a few years ago. In an interview with NDTV World, she shared her observation: “The way the wrestlers’ father was portrayed in the movie reminded me of my own experience growing up.” She added, “I couldn’t help but notice the striking similarities.”

To provide more clarity on the topic, Chen Shih explained that her father was similarly strict with her, if not more so. She identified herself as a spitting image of her father in terms of determination and resilience. This connection reminded her of the characters in Dangal. Chen remembered feeling like a nonconformist, much like the character Geeta Phogat portrayed by Fatima Sana Shaikh, who openly defied rules after joining the national team. However, unlike Geeta’s bold resistance, Chen chose to leave instead.

Three years after being away, she revealed that seeing a heart-touching advertisement about a son struggling to care for his elderly parents on their birthday stirred up strong feelings in her, leading her to return home and reconnect with her father. Regrettably, due to the missed opportunity of the past three years, she was unable to participate in the 2000 Sydney Olympics where Taekwondo made its debut as an Olympic sport.
