Aamir Khan reveals striking similarity between Indian and Chinese audiences at WAVES Summit 2025; shares warm hug with Rajkumar Hirani

As a connoisseur of captivating narratives and impactful cinema, I, Aamir Khan, had the privilege of being the spotlight at the inaugural WAVES 2025 (World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit) held in the vibrant city of Mumbai on May 1st. During this esteemed gathering, I offered a series of profound observations regarding the universal appeal and emotional potency of storytelling that knows no bounds.

Drawing from my personal experiences working with diverse international audiences, particularly in China, I emphasized the extraordinary power emotions hold in bridging cultural gaps. Emotions, I believe, serve as a universal language that can connect us all, transcending geographical and linguistic barriers.

Aamir shared some insights after having visited China multiple times over the past decade. He finds great promise in China and believes there are striking parallels between the Chinese and Indian audiences. In his experience, the Chinese people, their culture, and emotional responses to content are remarkably similar to those of Indians. This is a fascinating observation, he added.

The heartfelt statement resonated with those present at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex during the four-day event from May 1 to 4. This summit, organized by the Indian government, intends to shine a light on India’s booming media and entertainment sector on an international stage.

During Aamir’s session, there was a touching and sentimental instance when he met up with his old partner in filmmaking and friend, Rajkumar Hirani. This duo, known for creating box office sensations such as 3 Idiots and PK, exchanged warm embraces on stage, which caused ripples of smiles and applause from the crowd. This heartfelt scene served as a tender nod to the artistic harmony they’ve brought to Bollywood throughout their career.

At WAVES 2025, Aamir Khan’s presence was noteworthy not just because of his interaction with Hirani, but also due to anticipation about his upcoming movie, Sitaare Zameen Par. However, the trailer for this film was supposed to be unveiled this week; yet, it has been pushed back due to the unfortunate Pahalgam attacks. In solidarity with the victims and the sorrowful nation, the production team decided to suspend promotional activities temporarily.

Under the direction of R.S. Prasanna, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Sitaare Zameen Par features Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh in lead roles. While not exactly a follow-up, this film is often referred to as a spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par (2007), maintaining the tradition of cinema that is both emotionally stirring and socially significant. The story unfolds around a man who experiences personal growth through his encounters with children who perceive the world in unique ways.
