Junaid Khan, son of Aamir Khan, recently shone brightly in his first role in “Maharaj” and is currently basking in the film’s success. In a recent conversation, Junaid talked about his debut, the backing and impact his father had during the production, and his aspirations to lead Aamir Khan Productions in the future.
In a chat with Times of India, Junaid shared insights about his early foray into production. Unlike most actors who venture into production later in their careers, he stepped into producing alongside Pritam Pyaare. He attributed his decision to his extensive experience working on film sets, particularly projects like PK and assisting with ad shoots, which ultimately led him to this role.
Reflecting on the wrap of Maharaj’s film, I found myself in a unique position. At that time, Kiran (Rao) was engrossed in the production of Laapataa Ladies, while my dad was experiencing a phase where he felt like retiring. He had even mentioned it to me, “I am retiring, why don’t you take over.” Such words resonated deeply within me.
As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but share my passion for production – a challenging yet fascinating part of the filmmaking process. I firmly believe I’ve developed a solid grasp of it.
Was it suggested that Junaid’s film choices might have been affected by his father’s work in the industry? Junaid stated that he didn’t find it had a substantial impact on his decisions. He conceded that his father had created some exceptional pieces, but not everything was of the top tier, as filmmaking is more art than science. Junaid pointed out that the crucial aspect lies in learning from past experiences and continuing to progress.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: When inquired about my folks’ response to my debut film and whether they felt nervous during its premiere, I shared that they were brimming with joy rather than anxiety. I elucidated that, given their extensive experience in the industry, my parents are not typically anxious individuals.
In my experience, maintaining a composed attitude greatly assists me in managing challenging situations more effectively. I noticed this when discussing a movie with someone – he shared that his father thoroughly enjoyed it, appreciating his father’s ease in finding pleasure, contrasting with his mother, who tends to be a more discerning critic.
Concerning if his dad ever dropped by the movie set, Junaid mentioned that his father came on the very first day of filming, along with his three grandparents. Later on, instead of visiting again, he chose to watch the movie itself.
