Aaron Taylor-Johnson Revealed A Secret To Marvel's Superhero Looks I Hadn't Thought About (But Makes Total Sense): 'Arms, Butts, I've Seen Some Crazy...'

As someone who has spent countless hours watching and analyzing Marvel movies over the past decade, I must admit that Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s revelation about the padded superhero costumes came as quite a shock to me. It’s like discovering that your favorite superhero action figure had a secret compartment filled with cotton balls!

The latest Spider-Man Universe film from Sony, “Kraven the Hunter,” set for release in 2024, has now graced the big screen, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson displaying an impressive physique befitting a superhero, complete with chiseled abs and bulging biceps. Interestingly, despite Taylor-Johnson’s intense training to embody Kraven, he recently hinted at a hidden aspect of some Marvel superheroes’ appearances that I hadn’t considered before, although it does make perfect sense.

What Did Kraven The Hunter’s Aaron Taylor-Johnson Say About Marvel’s Superhero Looks?

If you’re wondering how Aaron Taylor-Johnson could know anything about Marvel’s superhero looks, well, I can’t even really accuse you of having a short memory, as it was nearly a full decade ago when he starred in Avengers: Age of Ultron as the MCU’s version of Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver. Obviously, that 2015 movie saw the Fall Guy actor get to experience the behind-the-scenes aspects of making one of Marvel’s highly-hyped films, and he just revealed a secret to the muscle-bound heroes during an interview with Capitol, saying:

I’ve worked on some Marvel films and, you know, those suits are padded!

Apologies for the exclamation, but I’m taken aback by your statement, Mr. Taylor-Johnson. Are you suggesting that some of our beloved modern superheroes on the big screen didn’t acquire their physiques through traditional methods like rigorous dieting and intense workouts, as we commonly understand? When asked about six packs being artificial, you mentioned something to that effect. Is this correct?

Yeah, dude! Arms, everything. Butts! I’ve seen some crazy pads!

Wow, I can’t help but feel…so incredibly…disappointed! Isn’t that the case for you too? It seems that even when stars like Chris Hemsworth talk about achieving their superhero physiques, it’s not always just a result of sheer hard work and an occasional skipped cocktail, isn’t it?

And you know what? Now that I think about it, this actually does make complete sense. Yes, superhero actors tend to have crazy intense training sessions and basically only eat “healthy stuff” like Taylor-Johnson did to pack on muscle, but also? Those costumes are tiiiiiiight. Like, if there’s any fluctuation in your weight or even the slightest bit of decrease in say, the musculature of your gluteus maximus, suddenly you’re not filling that costume out as it was made for you to.

It’s safe to assume they’ve prepared at least five outfits (to put it mildly). But are they planning on redoing every single one just because you feel your figure isn’t up to the mark now? Absolutely not! Instead, let’s consider using padding!

Additionally, take note of how some characters in these comic books are illustrated. Their physiques are often beyond what’s typical for humans, and while actors might have top-notch trainers, nutritionists, chefs, medical professionals, etc., it’s not surprising if sustaining such a look for an entire blockbuster movie proves challenging. Not too long past, Taylor-Johnson proved to us that his Kraven muscles were as strong as ever following the completion of the eagerly anticipated 28 Years Later (scheduled for release in 2025), but should we discover that his next film includes a costume with artificial abs, let’s try to be understanding about it, alright?
