Aashram actor Bobby Deol reveals why he was ‘hesitant’ to tell Dharmendra and Sunny Deol about his role in series

At a grand function in Mumbai, the creators of Bobby Deol’s show, Aashram, revealed the long-awaited trailer for Season 3 Part 2, titled Ek Badnaam Aashram. Since its debut in 2020, this series has significantly boosted Bobby’s acting career. Interestingly, despite his initial hesitation, Bobby eventually decided to tell Dharmendra and Sunny Deol about his role, fearing they might criticize his choice given that he’s no longer often cast in lead hero roles.

As reported by Free Press Journal, during the event, Bobby Deol expressed his desire to portray characters distinct from his actual self. Whilst seeking varied characters, the series ‘Aashram’ presented itself to him, and he realized that leading roles were no longer suitable for him. To let his family watch the show without prior knowledge, he decided against informing them about accepting the role.

As a devoted follower, I found myself hesitant to disclose the details of my decision with my parents and brother Sunny Deol, for fear they might challenge my choice. I confessed, “I realized that hero roles would no longer be offered to me, which is why I chose not to inform my family about accepting this show initially. I wanted them to watch it first, then respond.

In a different take, the Animal actor remarked, “If I had shared with my parents or my brother (Sunny Deol) about the nature of Aashram, they might have wondered, ‘What’s the reason behind your involvement in this project?’

As a committed adherent, I found myself leaning solely on my spouse during this journey, finding solace in their unwavering support and heartening words that urged me to trust my intuition. Acknowledging the contentious nature of the project’s subject matter, I felt compelled to press forward, recognizing its potential reflection of genuine societal concerns and ready to shoulder the associated risks.

Bobby expressed that the response of his family towards Aashram was extremely favorable. He felt like he was dreaming as his mother received compliments about his acting skills from friends. His father, Dharmendra, too, heard words of appreciation for his work from well-wishers. Meanwhile, Sunny Deol, his brother, was inundated with messages from people yearning to interact with him.

The performer expressed heartfelt appreciation towards Prakash Jha for having faith in him and presenting him with a life-altering chance. He pointed out that the industry often pigeonholes actors, but he deliberately selects intricate antagonist characters. Although he has earned acclaim for portraying villains, he views this as merely the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his acting career and is eager to delve into a wider range of roles.

Under the direction of Prakash Jha, this series centers around Baba Nirala, played by Bobby Deol. In reality, this self-proclaimed spiritual figure masks a life filled with deceit, criminal activities, and manipulation beneath his divine image.

This upcoming series boasts a skilled main cast, consisting of Chandan Roy Sanyal, Aaditi Pohankar, Tridha Choudhury, Darshan Kumaar, Vikram Kochhar, Anupriya Goenka, Rajeev Siddhartha, and Esha Gupta in significant roles. The long-awaited second half of the third season is due to air on Amazon MX Player starting February 27.
