As a gamer who’s had more hours logged into the world of TV shows than any open-world game, I must say this crossover between “Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is a dream come true! It’s like the ultimate quest where my favorite characters from two beloved series are joining forces. The fact that these shows are both part of the Disney family, set in Philly, and have been on the air for years makes it even more exciting. I can only imagine the hilarity that will ensue when our beloved teachers from Abbott Elementary meet the dysfunctional gang from Paddy’s Pub. And if they manage to pull off a cross-over with no time travel or alternate dimensions, I might just have to retire my gaming controller for good!
The comedic worlds of ‘Abbott Elementary’ and ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ are about to collide, as the brilliant creators of both sitcoms have planned a special joint episode!
On Thursday, Rob McElhenney, the bright star and maker behind Sunny, made an announcement on Instagram with a post and story. In the images, he was seen alongside Charlie Day from Sunny, and Quinta Brunson, the talented mind behind Abbott. The trio seemed to be at the Warner Bros. lot where Abbott is filmed, as suggested by their surroundings. McElhenney’s caption for the photo was a casual “Oh. Hello.
On Instagram, McElhenney shared a new picture featuring Danny DeVito from the show “Sunny”, as well as Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis from “Abbott”.

The news is based on months of anticipation surrounding potential collaborations between the two shows. At Comic-Con in July, Brunson hinted at an upcoming crossover episode for Abbott without providing much detail, only revealing that it would air during the series’ fourth season, which starts on October 9th.
This season, we have an intriguing collaboration up our sleeve… However, I won’t reveal the details such as who, what, where, when or how. But trust me, it’s electrifying and could revolutionize TV as we currently understand it.
Abbott and Sunny are both connected to the Disney network, with Abbott being broadcast on ABC and Sunny residing on FX. Interestingly, both shows take place in Philadelphia, and Sunny recently debuted its sixteenth season during the previous summer.
Last month’s Emmy Awards saw both Sunny and Abbott make an appearance. In fact, Sunny’s co-stars, McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson, were the ones presenting at the event. Meanwhile, Abbott Elementary was a strong contender, with several nominations such as best comedy series.
