Almin Karamehmedovic has been named president of ABC News.
Karamehmedovic has managed the production and daily functioning of “World News Tonight with David Muir” since August 2014. He assumes the position of president following Kim Goodwin’s announcement of her retirement in May. In the meantime, Debra O’Connell, president of News Group and Networks at Disney Entertainment, has been acting as head of ABC News.
Starting from January 2022, Karamehmedovic’s responsibilities have grown to include supervising the creation of news content, as he was promoted from an executive producer to a senior executive producer.
In the role as president, I’ll be the one steering the ship at ABC News, managing our daily activities and guiding the teams responsible for programs like World News Tonight with David Muir, Good Morning America, The View, 20/20, Nightline, ABC News Live, ABC News Studios, and our coverage of special events.

Prior to hosting “World News Tonight with David Muir,” Karamehmedovic served as the executive producer of “Nightline.” Additionally, he produced “Nightline” during prime time for two seasons and numerous ABC primetime hours, various “20/20” specials, and breaking news special reports.
1998 marked the year he started working as a freelance video editor for ABC News, stationed in London. Over time, he turned into one of the pioneering reporters granted access to Tora Bora, Afghanistan, where Osama bin Laden was concealed. In 2003, he accompanied the U.S. Army during the invasion of Iraq, and in 2005, he was among the first journalists to journey to Darfur/Sudan to document the genocide.
Apart from that, he’s also delved into the conflict in Southern Lebanon and was among the initial responders in Haiti post the catastrophic earthquake in 2010. Subsequently, he revisited Al Anbar, Iraq, to chronicle the battle against ISIS, ventured to the battlegrounds of Afghanistan, and has been involved in projects such as interviewing Holocaust survivors seven decades later, accompanying American war veterans to Normandy, and reporting on children affected by climate change in Madagascar.
Karamehmedovic has visited over one hundred countries worldwide and mastered skills such as shooting, producing, editing, and broadcasting from anywhere on the globe. He has been honored with several prestigious awards including the DuPont Award, 16 Emmys, 9 Edward R. Murrow Awards, 2 Christopher Awards, and a Peabody Award.
He graduated from the University of Greenwich in London.
