ABC’s ‘High Potential’ Nears 11M Viewers for Second Episode (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours binge-watching shows on various platforms, I must say that ABC’s ‘High Potential’ is living up to its name, indeed! The ratings are impressive, and the series seems to be striking a chord with viewers across multiple platforms.

ABC‘s first-year drama High Potential is thus far living up to its title in ratings terms.

The television series featuring Kaitlin Olson has garnered over 10 million viewers collectively across all platforms for its first two episodes, according to the network. Specifically, the September 24th episode saw a significant boost, rising from an initial viewership of 3.67 million to 10.72 million after a week, thanks to streaming and DVR viewing – marking a nearly threefold increase. For viewers aged 18-49, the show’s initial rating of 0.31 (equivalent to roughly 435,000 people) multiplied by seven within a week, reaching 2.2 without considering any subsequent airings.

The Nielsen ratings for the September 24 episode, excluding online streaming, showed that it was viewed by 6.76 million people and had a rating of 0.61 among adults aged 18 to 49. This implies that nearly 3.7 million viewers (around 40% of the overall audience) watched the show on platforms like Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and other digital services. Interestingly, more than 70% of the 18-49 age group viewers tuned in through streaming.

The viewership for the second episode of “High Potential” surpassed its initial release, which initially attracted 9.75 million viewers and a 2.12 rating across multiple platforms over a week, without repeat showings. (Initially, ABC claimed an audience of 11.5 million viewers within three days, but this figure incorporated nearly 4 million viewers from two re-runs.) With an extra week of viewership and including repeats this time, the initial episode’s viewer count has now reached 17.79 million.

The cross-platform figures for ‘High Potential’ also support other evidence indicating that a television show’s initial on-air broadcast often attracts less than half of its total weekly viewers. Generally, streaming services contribute the most to the remaining audience, with DVR replays coming in second place.
