Abhishek Bachchan REACTS on being compared to Irrfan Khan after I Want To Talk: ‘That’s got nothing to…’

As an ardent admirer of Indian cinema, I must say that Abhishek Bachchan‘s recent performance in “I Want To Talk” has truly left me spellbound. His portrayal was so profound and nuanced, it brought echoes of the legendary Irrfan Khan – a comparison he humbly dismissed, but one that resonated deeply with the viewers.

Abhishek Bachchan is being highly acclaimed for his acting in the film “I Want To Talk”. Lately, he shared insights about the work he did to portray his character and addressed comparisons to the revered Irrfan Khan, explaining that he doesn’t find any similarities between their performances.

In a conversation with ETimes, Abhishek Bachchan graciously addressed the compliments for his role in I Want To Talk, where viewers often observed similarities to Irrfan Khan’s acting style. He modestly downplayed the comparison by saying, “It has nothing to do with me. Actors are merely well-cared-for and handsomely compensated puppets.” He then acknowledged director Shoojit Sircar as the true master manipulator behind the scenes.

Additionally, the actor has recently expressed his views about his character in the movie, finding it delightful to be labeled as a ‘second chance at life for an actor.’ He underscored the importance of continually evolving one’s acting skills with every new project, all the while preserving their distinctive identity.

He expressed that it’s important to avoid repetition in performances and to always aim for something fresh and different, constantly pushing to explore new approaches with each role.

Apart from other topics, Abhishek discussed collaborating with directors too. He pointed out that every director has a distinctive style and technique. According to him, when an actor embarks on a director’s creative path, they should completely surrender to their vision. This principle, he mentioned, has been his compass for most of his career, and he’s generally adhered to it.

In addition to expressing his thoughts about working with director Shoojit Sircar, the actor also discussed his unique approach. It turns out that instead of asking his actors to perform, Sircar encourages them to become their characters. This process involves extensive preparation, which at first may seem unconventional and even strange.

When Abhishek inquired about his strategy, Shoojit requested unwavering faith. Pondering on this, he likened it to trust-building exercises from his drama school years, highlighting how as an actor, you are essentially giving your trust to the director, revealing your vulnerability and asking them to handle it delicately.

Abhishek Bachchan went on to clarify that when an actor places trust in a director, doubts about their stardom could potentially disrupt the creative process. He underscored that if an actor thinks, “I’m too big for this,” they are preventing the director from fully expressing their artistic vision.

He drew a parallel with Forrest Gump, one of the greatest films of all time, where the protagonist is not portrayed as a traditional hero, but his character embodies heroism. He pointed out that every actor must take a leap of faith to truly bring the character to life.

The performer admitted that although performers typically align with a director’s perspective, there are instances when they might pause. He empathized with those who hold back, recognizing that their caution could stem from previous encounters that left them apprehensive.

However, he added that the key is to work with people they trust, despite the risks, because it’s about knowing you’re in good hands.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Abhishek Bachchan is set to appear next in Housefull 5.
