Abir Gulaal: Dia Mirza voices support for Fawad Khan’s Bollywood comeback amidst backlash: ‘We will be watching soon’

Fawad Khan is gearing up for his return to Bollywood with the movie Abir Gulaal, pairing with Vaani Kapoor. This upcoming project has been garnering attention due to several reasons: it’s not just a sign of Fawad’s re-entry into the Indian film industry as a romantic lead, but also because of the varying responses it’s received. Despite some negative feedback, Dia Mirza has spoken up in support of Khan, expressing her anticipation with the words, “We’ll be watching soon.

In my latest conversation with News18 Showsha, I, Dia Mirza, openly expressed my favorable view on Fawad Khan potentially returning to the Hindi film industry. I strongly believe that creative outlets such as films should remain unbiased and free from hostility. Furthermore, I eagerly anticipate more collaborative artistic ventures between Indian and Pakistani talents in the future.

According to reports, Mirza made clear the political aspect of the discussion about the artist ban, yet she repeatedly expressed her firm conviction that art is meant to foster harmony and unity. She stressed that it’s crucial to keep both art and sports separate from hatred and strife.

The actress from Kaafir showed delight upon Fawad Khan’s upcoming return to Bollywood, stating that moviegoers can expect to see him again shortly. Furthermore, she expressed hope that his comeback might lead to increased collaboration opportunities among artists from both countries.

Previously, Fawad Khan has acted in three prominent Bollywood movies: Khoobsurat (2014), Kapoor & Sons (2016), and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). These films gained widespread recognition primarily because of his substantial fanbase in India.

Following the significant shift after the 2016 Uri terror attack, these organizations like the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) and the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) took action by prohibiting Pakistani artists from participating in Indian films.

Despite the Bombay High Court not enforcing a formal ban in 2023 as requested, experts within the industry claim that an informal limitation on employing Pakistani talent has persisted since then.

In recent developments, Fawad’s new venture, titled Abir Gulaal, hasn’t escaped criticism entirely. Political entities such as the Maharashtra Revival Committee (MRC), specifically the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), have publicly expressed their disapproval.
