‘Achi film aap dabbe mein rakhoge’: Kennedy’s Rahul Bhat is disappointed over delay in film’s release; calls it Anurag Kashyap’s ‘love letter’ to city

For some time now, Anurag Kashyap’s movie Kennedy has been eagerly anticipated by many. This noir thriller made an appearance at Cannes 2023 and stars Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone in prominent roles. Despite receiving much praise, the film’s release has been postponed, leaving both the cast and fans frustrated. Recently, Rahul Bhat voiced his dissatisfaction regarding this delay.

At the moment, Rahul Bhat is making his third appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. His purpose this time around is to reveal the initial glimpse of his upcoming Hollywood debut movie titled Lost and Found in Kumbh. During an interview with Sucharita Tyagi, Rahul Bhat also discussed the postponed premiere of his film Kennedy, helmed by Anurag Kashyap.

He pondered over the acclaim their movie had garnered, recalling the deafening applause during a screening in Mumbai’s Mahim. Despite the use of batons, he acknowledged that people flocked to the Kolkata International Film Festival for some reason or another to catch it. He voiced his discontent, pointing out how production studios often fail to grasp this aspect.

(The main idea remains the same, but the sentence structure has been made more conversational and easier to read by breaking down complex sentences into simpler ones and using more common words.)

If people keep complaining that good movies aren’t being made, but end up canceling them instead, then what difference will it make?” He exclaimed, expressing his frustration over the apathy of some individuals.

The performer from “The Black Warrant” highlighted that Kennedy is a film widely seen across the globe. He mentioned some of the places it has been recognized, such as Toronto, Australia, and most recently, the New York Film Festival, where it received a nomination.

Bhat recalled being told by New York Film Festival attendees that the event was packed. Admittedly, he felt disappointed and saddened by the delay, as he had been eager for more people to view it.

As he explained, an Anurag Kashyap film like a noir-thriller is essentially a reflection of his deep affection for the city. His perspective and gaze on the city are what make it up, and Kennedy also serves as one of those perspectives. In other words, this film can be seen as a heartfelt love letter that Anurag wrote to the city.

On a concluding note, Bhat shared that he has heard the film will be released soon.
