Action Star Sylvester Stallone Almost Played Batman, BTS Footage Revealed

As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Batman on the silver screen for over three decades, I must confess that the revelation of Sylvester Stallone coming close to donning the cape and cowl is both intriguing and perplexing.

Currently, we’ve reached a dozen actors who have donned the cape and cowl as Batman in live-action. Most of these actors received positive feedback from fans, but some, like Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, initially faced criticism and dissatisfaction upon being cast. However, the response to these choices pales in comparison to the latest news, which suggests that an iconic action movie star nearly took on the role of The Dark Knight.

The contentious notion surfaced when X/Twitter user @BatKilmer posted pictures showcasing a model depicting Sylvester Stallone wearing a Batman mask, with the caption, “In an alternate universe, Sylvester Stallone could have been Batman, while Mark Hamill truly embodied the Joker.” Although such an extraordinary cinematic scenario seems unattainable due to its splendor potentially shattering our reality, it has stirred questions amongst DC enthusiasts regarding the possibility of the action hero, known for his roles in Rocky and Rambo, stepping into the role of their cherished superhero.

It’s hard to picture Sylvester Stallone’s usual grumbling coming from under the famous Batman cowl. Nevertheless, the prospect of him acting alongside Mark Hamill, who voiced the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series and Star Wars, in a live-action setting is certainly captivating. Regrettably, this wouldn’t have been a big-screen project, but rather Stallone starring in the acclaimed 2003 short film Batman: Dead End.

According to Coty Ellis, the story suggests that Stallone decided against the project due to his agent advising him it wasn’t wise to star in a fan film, regardless of its budget size. Additionally, Hamill was only interested in participating if Stallone was involved (allegedly).

There Is Still a Lot More Batman To Come…

Today, Batman stands as one of the most widely recognized figures in fictional storytelling, appearing in numerous comics, films, TV series, fan productions, video games, and more. At present, Robert Pattinson, previously known for his role in the Twilight saga (who likewise faced criticism upon being cast), portrays Batman on the big screen. Pattinson first appeared as Batman in 2022’s well-received film The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves. He is set to return as the Dark Knight for the eagerly awaited sequel, The Batman Part 2, scheduled for release in theaters on October 2, 2026.

In addition to Pattinson, another portrayal of Batman is about to debut within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamped DCU. As of now, we don’t know who will take on the role, but this unknown actor will share a universe with David Corenswet’s Superman. Notably, Alan Ritchson from the series Reacher and Winston Duke from Black Panther have expressed interest in donning the Batman costume for Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Although Sylvester Stallone won’t be playing Batman, he is now set to spearhead his very own superhero series in the film Samaritan. A follow-up for this project is currently being developed by Amazon MGM Studios.
