Ad Astra Starring Brad Pitt is Coming to Hulu in November

As a long-time fan and follower of Brad Pitt‘s illustrious career, I can confidently say that his latest venture, “F1,” promises to be nothing short of extraordinary. Having witnessed Pitt’s transformative roles in classics like “Se7en,” “Interview with the Vampire,” and “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood,” I am eagerly anticipating his portrayal of Sonny Hayes – a Formula One driver with a past as thrilling as his future.

In a new turn of events, the space odyssey film “Ad Astra“, one of Brad Pitt’s recent movies that underperformed at the box office, is now making its way to Hulu. Here’s hoping it finds the recognition it deserves among sci-fi enthusiasts seeking their next gripping space drama. The film was produced at a staggering cost of $135.4 million in 2019, but it fell short of earning enough at the box office to cover its production expenses. As announced by Hulu (via CBR), “Ad Astra” is set to join their collection beginning November 1, marking the end of the spooky season and the renewal of streaming services’ catalogs.

The movie “Ad Astra” was helmed by James Gray, who collaborated on the screenplay with Ethan Ross. Headlined by Brad Pitt, who additionally served as a producer, the film follows Roy McBride, a high-ranking military official working for a government agency. Due to its personal nature, he is compelled to embark on a mission. Suspicious energy pulses from outer space pose a danger to mankind, and these events hold a significant connection for McBride, as they relate to his long-lost father, Clifford McBride, who departed Earth 29 years ago on an exploration of the galaxy’s region where these surges originate.

As Roy sets off on a space voyage (one that appears relatively straightforward based on the movie’s future timeline), things take an unexpected turn for the worse. Following several mishaps, Roy comes to understand that he was coerced into this mission because his father hadn’t fully adhered to what had begun decades earlier, and it now seems he deviated from the path.

Despite receiving positive reviews and maintaining an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie was a significant commercial flop. Director James Gray was disheartened by the final version, which he had little control over; it seems that the studio interfered excessively in the production process. Originally intended to be a realistic depiction of space, the film is more often remembered for its comparison to Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar.” However, it stands as one of Brad Pitt’s finest performances and boasts an impressive score by Max Richter and stunning cinematography by Hoyte van Hoytema.

Currently at the age of 60, Brad Pitt remains remarkably active. Managing to dodge the potential fallout from Hollywood’s cancel culture, this versatile actor known for movies such as Se7en, Interview with the Vampire, and Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood is involved in a variety of ventures, both on-screen and off-screen. His most recent project was the action comedy directed by Jon Watts, titled Wolfs, which featured his Ocean’s Eleven co-star, George Clooney.

Instead of his current film that’s causing all the buzz, it’s his upcoming action project that has everyone on edge: F1, a movie helmed by Joseph Kosinski with a script by Ehren Kruger. In this new venture, Brad Pitt takes on the role of Sonny Hayes, a Formula One driver whose life was forever altered by a devastating accident in the past. As the story unfolds, Hayes is persuaded to return to the racing world as a guide and inspiration for a promising young racer named Noah Pearce.

The movie is scheduled for release in the summer of 2025, and Jerry Bruckheimer will join as a producer through his company. However, it’s an Apple Original Films project predominantly. In other words, it’s not too soon to say that F1 will offer a unique twist on sports dramas, unlike any we’ve seen before. In fact, custom cameras had to be developed specifically for this film.
