Adam Carolla’s DEI Firefighter Story Goes Viral

Parts of Los Angeles are on fire, and many want to pin the blame on someone besides Mother Nature.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is receiving unfavorable attention due to several issues. While she was in Ghana, tragic fires occurred within the city, which presents an unflattering image for a metropolitan leader. Additionally, her budget reductions, such as the $17.6 million from the city’s fire department, are now causing problems for her.

Now, some wonder if the progressive city’s DEI efforts fueled the crisis.

Enter Adam Carolla or, at least, testimony he shared with Congress nearly eight years ago.

I proudly stood before that government assembly, championing the cause of free speech as part of my “No Safe Spaces” initiative. I seized this platform to recount stories from my past, such as my endeavor to join the ranks of L.A.’s brave firefighters.

It didn’t go well.

I completed my education at North Hollywood High with a GPA of 1.7 but struggled to find employment. At the age of 19, I was residing in the garage of my family home, where my mother relied on welfare and food stamps for support. Asking out of desperation, I approached a fire station and inquired about becoming a firefighter. Unfortunately, they rejected me, stating that due to my ethnicity, gender, or background, I wasn’t eligible at the time, and would reconsider my application in approximately seven years.

Seven years after receiving the invitation, he mentioned during his testimony that he ultimately got the opportunity to apply. While awaiting at the government office, he wrote the entrance test and asked another applicant for advice in the meantime.

In a queue, there was a young woman of color behind me. I jokingly asked, “By the way, when did you enroll to be a firefighter?” To which she replied, “On Wednesday.” This incident highlights my unawareness and benefit from white privilege.

He told a story as a means of criticizing racial policies, especially those that are prevalent in colleges and universities. However, the video has been gaining popularity due to various other factors now.

Elon Musk, the proprietor, posted something on his platform showcasing Carolla’s testimony. This post garnered over 4.4 million views in no time.

And counting.

I’ve noticed a surge in the resharing of old clips from 2017, and that includes Carolla. For quite some time now, he’s been critiquing DEI-style policies on his self-named podcast as well as “The Adam and Dr. Drew Show.

This week, he emphasized that the actions of LA-area Democrats have made the city susceptible to natural disasters such as this one.

He also played up concerns that DEI priorities may have cost area residents dearly.

As I stand by, awestruck spectator, I see firefighters tirelessly battling the flames that continue to rage. Yet, the intricacies of what ignited this inferno and the reasons behind its tenacious persistence remain shrouded in mystery.

Carolla’s narrative, along with doubts about DEI favoring diversity over ability, will persist for some time.

Or:

The ongoing discourse surrounding Carolla’s account and the debate about whether DEI favors diversity over competence isn’t going away any time soon.
