Adam Lambert, Auli’i Cravalho to Take Over Lead Roles in ‘Cabaret’ on Broadway

As a long-time musical theatre fan, I am absolutely thrilled to witness the Broadway debuts of two incredibly talented artists, Adam Lambert and Auli’i Cravalho, taking over the lead roles in “Cabaret.” Having grown up watching productions on stage, it has always been a dream of mine to see these performers bring their unique talents to this iconic show.

As a longtime fan of musical theater, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about the upcoming cast change for “Cabaret.” Having followed Adam Lambert’s career since his American Idol days and being an ardent supporter of Auli’i Cravalho since her stunning performance in “Moana,” I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation.

Starting September 16, 2022, Lambert and Cravalho will make their Broadway debuts by taking on the roles of the Emcee and Sally Bowles respectively at the August Wilson Theatre, with their performances continuing until March 30, 2025. Notable for his time on “American Idol” and music career, this will be Lambert’s first appearance on Broadway. Cravalho, recognized for her voice work as Moana and recent role in “Mean Girls: The Musical” film adaptation, is also new to the Broadway stage.

Redmayne and Rankin, who have been recognized with Tony nominations for their acts, are set to give their last performances on September 14th.

Before making it to “American Idol,” Lambert previously starred in the North American touring version of “Wicked.” Additionally, she has graced the silver screen in movies such as “Bohemian Rapsody” and “Fairyland.”

Cravalho has acted in various productions including “The Power” on Amazon, “Crush” on Hulu, and the NBC series “Rise”. She will reprise her character as Moana in the forthcoming sequel.

“Growing up on musical theater stages, I’ve always harbored a dream of performing on Broadway. In this production of ‘Cabaret,’ I felt the moment was right to accept an invitation and bring that dream to life. The show’s themes have always struck a chord with me, and in today’s sociopolitical climate, they seem particularly relevant. Working alongside Eddie and Gayle is a delight, and I’m excited to collaborate with Auli’i to add our unique touch. I’m relishing the opportunity to delve into this significant tale and join forces with the rest of the gifted cast and crew,” Lambert expressed.

“I’m excited and proud to follow in the footsteps of many talented actresses who have brought ‘Sally Bowles’ to life, including the remarkable Gayle Rankin whom I had the pleasure of watching prepare for her role. Joining a production with such a rich history and an exceptional team is truly humbling. A big mahalo to my ohana (family), without whose support I wouldn’t be embarking on this new journey.”

As a dedicated fan, I’m excited to share that Lambert and Cravalho are set to perform in seven out of eight shows every week, just like Redmayne and Rankin do now.

Announcements for the Emcee and Sally Bowles roles, starting from April 30, 2025, will be made. The show started preview performances on April 1 and officially opened on April 21.
