As a longtime fan of Adam Sandler‘s comedies, hearing about the upcoming release of “Happy Gilmore 2” has me feeling like I just hit a hole-in-one! The original film is one of my all-time favorites, and the fact that it’s getting a sequel after all these years is nothing short of a miracle.
As I sit here, my fingers tapping away on the keyboard, I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement coursing through me. You see, I’m about to embark on an epic journey, a journey that will see the return of a legendary character: Happy Gilmore! Yes, you heard it right, Happy Gilmore 2 is in the works and it’s all happening with Netflix. The cameras have rolled, the scenes have been captured, and now we’re one step closer to seeing our favorite golfing, chanting, and pizza-loving hero back on the big screen! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for this iconic character!
On Friday, the star made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show episode, during which he disclosed that filming for the movie had been wrapped up that very day. With Kyle Newacheck at the helm, this upcoming comedy – a sequel to the 1996 original – features Adam Sandler as the surprising protagonist golfer, and a release date has yet to be set.
In their chat, Patrick shared that he had filmed a scene on set the day before. When Patrick enquired about when Sandler’s movie might be streamed online, Sandler responded by saying, “I’m not absolutely certain, but I think it could be around July. Not on Independence Day, but we’re aiming to have it ready for July. However, things can change unexpectedly. We’re wrapping up today – it’s the final day.
About the expectation he’s facing to match the success of the original film, Sandler stated, “There’s quite a bit of pressure — I want it to be exceptional.” He continued, “It’s constantly on your mind. We have a lot of promising elements, and we aim to ensure that everything harmonizes seamlessly from start to finish, maintaining the momentum throughout. That’s our objective. We’ll see how it turns out. Needless to say, we’re feeling apprehensive, but there’s also a sense of assurance.
Sandler hinted at some of the movie’s surprise appearances, one being from Eminem. “Eminem was awesome,” Sandler said. “He dropped by, and he was fantastic. I’ve known Eminem for a while, and he’s an excellent person. He came in and was hilarious. It seemed like we spent a day with Eminem, and he just filmed and filmed – it was unbelievable. He said so many things that we can use, and there are plenty of moments we’re grateful we have him on camera.
As a gamer, let me share my excitement about meeting golfing legend Jack Nicklaus, one of the gaming project’s big names! During his visit, he and other golf greats stopped by. We shared an awesome scene together, and afterwards, we all chilled out. Jack was incredible, and I must say, so was his wife. In the scene, I got to sit next to Jack, which gave me a chance to chat with him, and he was really cool about it!
In the follow-up film, originally directed by Dennis Dugan, actors Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and Ben Stiller will reprise their roles, with Dugan serving as an executive producer. The newcomers to the cast include Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, and Scott Mescudi. Athletes Travis Kelce and golfer John Daly make special appearances in the movie.
In the next installment, the same group of creators – Sandler, Tim Herlihy, Robert Simonds, and Jack Giarraputo – will be back on board. Notably, Sandler and Herlihy are responsible for writing the screenplay for Happy Gilmore 2, having also penned the original film’s script.
Back on February 16, 1996, Universal Studios unveiled the movie “Happy Gilmore.” Since then, it’s grown into a beloved classic and is often fondly remembered as one of Adam Sandler’s most iconic films.
