Over the past two decades, I’ve been chipping away at roles, often taking a step back to let others shine. But that’s all changed now, as I find myself basking in a fresh wave of success following my performance in 2023’s groundbreaking film, Oppenheimer.
Following two successful projects, I find myself thrilled to share that I’ve landed a fresh opportunity. Most recently, you might have seen me in M. Night Shyamalan’s “Trap” and the indie action film “Fight or Flight,” reminiscent of “John Wick.” Now, I’m excited to announce that I’ll be taking on the lead role in Netflix‘s yet-to-be-titled Newfoundland limited series.
The announcement for the series came in late February, with its creator, Jesse McKeown, involved in the project. It’s a six-episode miniseries that will be filmed and based in the Canadian province of Newfoundland.
An unnamed collection of episodes centers around a puzzling marine beast causing chaos in a secluded Newfoundland village. A rugged fisherman, portrayed by Hartnett, is compelled to battle for the safety of his loved ones, the community, and their rapidly disappearing lifestyle.
McKeown takes on the roles of showrunner and executive producer for the upcoming production. Additionally, Jessica Rhoades has been brought in as an executive producer through her company Pacesetter U.K. A team of executives including Hartnett, Chris Hatcher, Jamie Childs (who is also a director), Louise Sutton, and Sharon Hall are also serving as executive producers. The writing team consists of Karen Walton, Perry Chafe, and Natty Zavitz. Directing duties will be handled by Jamie Childs, Helen Shaver, and Stephen Dunn.
In the yet-unnamed Newfoundland series airing on Netflix, we see a reunion not just between Hartnett and the streaming giant, but also between him and Rhoades. Previously, these two creatives joined forces in an episode of Black Mirror; specifically, Hartnett made an appearance in Season 6, Episode 3 titled “Beyond the Sea.
No other cast members are attached to the upcoming limited series yet.
