As someone who has grown up in the vibrant world of Bollywood, I find myself deeply moved by the recent exchange between Sonakshi Sinha and Mukesh Khanna. Having been raised amidst the rich tapestry of Indian mythology and culture, I can relate to the importance these stories hold for many of us. However, it is disheartening to see a fellow industry veteran question another’s upbringing and knowledge based on one instance.
Sonakshi Sinha defended herself on Instagram stories against Mukesh Khanna’s criticism that her father Shatrughan Sinha was responsible for her lacking knowledge about a question related to the Ramayana. Subsequently, Shatrughan Sinha countered Khanna’s remarks by questioning his qualifications to be an expert on all matters concerning the Ramayana. He inquired, “What makes this individual an authority on everything Ramayana-related?
Shatrughan Sinha spoke with Bollywood Hungama about the recent controversy involving his daughter Sonakshi Sinha and actor Mukesh Khanna. The seasoned actor questioned, “Who is this individual to claim expertise on everything concerning the Ramayana? And who gave him the authority to oversee Hindu religion?
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it this way: In my own words, the esteemed actor from Rakta Charitra shared his immense pride in each of his three children. Regarding Sonakshi, he emphasized that she ascended to stardom independently, without any help from him in launching her career. Speaking highly of her, he declared, “She’s a daughter any father would be proud to call his own.” At 78 years old, he added a note about Sonakshi’s faith, asserting that not expressing an opinion on the Ramayan doesn’t diminish her devotion or Hindu identity. Lastly, he emphasized that she doesn’t require validation or approval from anyone to shine brightly in her own right.
During a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the actor known for Shaktimaan, expressed his displeasure about Sonakshi not correctly answering a Ramayana-related question on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) in 2019. Mukesh Khanna commented that the public was upset with her lack of knowledge. He said, “However, I believe it’s not her fault; it’s the fault of her parents for not teaching their children about this. Why did they allow them to become so modern?” he pondered.
After listening to his comment, the actress from Dabangg expressed her thoughts on social media in a lengthy post, criticizing Khanna for doubting her upbringing and accusing her father. Sona explained that there were two women being questioned that day who both didn’t know the answer to the same question, yet he continued to single out only her name for reasons she clearly understands. She acknowledged, “Yes, I might have momentarily forgotten the answer that day, a common human tendency, and failed to remember who the sanjeevani booti was meant for.” (sic)
At the end of her post, she emphasized that if he ever chooses to comment on the moral principles her father passed down to her, “kindly recall it’s those very values that have guided me to respond as I did, in a respectful manner, following your inappropriate remarks about my background,” she pointed out.
