As a lifelong comic book enthusiast who’s been following Venom since his early appearances, I can confidently say that the upcoming movie, “Venom: The Last Dance,” has me more excited than a symbiote-hungry T-Rex at a tooth fairy convention!
There’s plenty to look forward to in the upcoming Venom film, Venom: The Last Dance. It seems that this will be Tom Hardy’s last portrayal of Eddie Brock and his alien symbiote, which bonded with him during the first Venom movie. Judging by the recently released trailer, Venom: The Last Dance promises to explore Venom’s extraterrestrial roots more thoroughly, even delving into the origin of the symbiote creator, Knull. In fact, after Knull made an appearance in the trailer, his co-creator Donny Cates expressed his enthusiasm on social media, which has me eagerly anticipating the villain’s role in the sequel.
We can employ comics as a resource to shed light on certain aspects. Knull is a deity who birthed the symbiotes following an invasion by the Celestials, as depicted in Eternals within the MCU. He fashioned the first symbiote into a sword and utilized it to behead a Celestial. Subsequently, he employed that Celestial’s head to augment his power, create a shadowy abyss, and connect himself to a Hive. Some of this was subtly hinted at in the final trailer for Venom: The Last Dance.
Here’s a shot of the Hive:
Some Venom enthusiasts playfully speculated that, given Sony’s history, the glimpse of Knull in the trailer might be a sneak peek for a scene appearing after the credits, but never actually paying off. This could resemble the encounter between Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) and Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton), or the remaining symbiote fragment left over from Spider-Man: No Way Home within the MCU. However, following the trailer release, comic author Donny Cates, who co-created Knull for the Venom comics, hinted at an exciting future in Venom: The Last Dance, stating:
I’ve had conversations with Sony and have read the script for #VenomTheLastDance, and let me tell you, it’s far larger and more daring than anything you could ever imagine. Plus, Knull… Wow! That’s how you handle royalty. Here’s wishing myself a happy birthday. Can’t wait to see you at NY_Comic_Con in September 2024 😉
Now, I feel much more assured about how “Venom: The Last Dance” will portray the formidable villain, Knull, who has been dubbed the King in Black due to his extreme cruelty. Honestly, that’s pretty cool. Furthermore, Donny Cates hinted at a battle between Venom and Knull as he tweeted about an anticipated confrontation.
Today, I’m turning the big 4-0, and here’s something that’s got me pumped: A movie is in the works featuring a character that Ryan Stegman and I brought to life squaring off against one created by Todd McFarlane. Regardless of anything else, nothing can take away the thrill I feel about this incredible crossover. September 14, 2024 – still a fantastic day!
I’m really excited about the third Venom movie, which is set to be the conclusion of Tom Hardy’s franchise. The series has built up the mythology surrounding the symbiote, introducing Carnage as Venom’s main adversary, and now it promises to delve into the planet where Venom was born. While a crossover with Spider-Man hasn’t happened yet, that’s something fans have been eagerly anticipating, and Hardy has hinted at. With a bit of symbiote residue now in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s hope that an upcoming Spider-Man film might take up that plot point – or that sticky situation – and exploit it.
Look for Venom: The Last Dance in theaters beginning on October 25.
