As someone who has been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe for decades, I must say that the anticipation for the finale of Agatha All Along is truly palpable. The decision to release two episodes together for the season finale feels like a throwback to the epic two-hour season finales that used to be commonplace in event TV, and it’s refreshing to see Marvel Studios breaking new ground yet again.
The finale episode of “Agatha All Along” is all set to create history within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as it concludes its run. After a two-episode debut on September 18, 2024, “Agatha” has emerged as Disney+’s marquee Halloween event series, captivating audiences throughout the spooky season. By October 30, 2024 (the day before Halloween), this series will have reached its climax, becoming one of the most popular shows of 2024 and undoubtedly one of the most discussed MCU series on Disney+ for quite some time.
In an interesting development, it’s been pointed out that the two-part season finale of “Agatha All Along” marks a unique instance for Marvel Studios and Disney+. Unlike previous instances where only one episode was aired for the season finale in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), this series will see two episodes released together for the grand conclusion. The only other time such an arrangement was seen was with “Echo”, which deviated from the norm by releasing all five of its episodes simultaneously on January 9, 2024.
In contrast to previous Marvel Disney+ series like WandaVision, Hawkeye, and X-Men ’97 which all had single-episode finales, Agatha All Along marks a comeback to the extended two-hour season finale format, similar to what was once typical for event television. The former shows, including the pioneering WandaVision that premiered on January 15, 2021, and Hawkeye which started on November 24, 2021, each had a two-episode premiere before concluding after five weeks. X-Men ’97 debuted earlier this year with a two-episode start on March 20, 2024.
Big Agatha All Along Event Incoming
The double release of episodes in Agatha All Along seems to indicate that these last two installments are not only significant events, but are intrinsically linked, making them more effective when presented together. There could also be a logistical reason, as Agatha All Along appears to be a Halloween-themed event and it’s crucial for the storyline to wrap up before the holiday, positioning the season finale as a must-watch for this season. Although they could have concluded the season on October 30 with just one episode, doing so would have necessitated delaying the premiere by a week, which Disney+ presumably wanted to avoid given it was scheduled for September 11. Moreover, extending Agatha All Along into the week following Halloween wasn’t an option because the subsequent Wednesday is the day after the presidential election, an event that is expected to consume most of the news cycle and public discourse.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the final chapters of “Agatha All Along,” as Aubrey Plaza’s portrayal of Death in the MCU adds intrigue to the last two episodes. The fate of Agatha, whether she lives or dies by the end of the series, remains uncertain. Concurrently, Billy Maximoff/Wiccan’s pursuit of his brother Tommy could pave the way for the rumored Young Avengers project that the MCU has been gradually setting up over the past three years. Instead of a single episode, fans will enjoy a two-part finale to wrap up “Agatha All Along.
