As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the intricate worlds of various TV shows and games alike, I must say that the upcoming episodes of CBS’ Elsbeth are shaping up to be a thrilling journey for fans like myself. The anticipation is palpable, what with Carrie Preston’s real-life husband Michael Emerson gracing our screens in an “almost untouchable” role, and the much-awaited return of Ben Levi Ross as Teddy Tascioni.
In simpler terms, the TV series “Elsbeth,” broadcasted by CBS, is expected to conclude its 2024 season with a strong finish. The penultimate episode before the break for the fall finale and the 2025 schedule will bring long-awaited developments. These include Michael Emerson, Carrie Preston’s real-life husband, taking on an “almost invincible” role, as per the leading actress, and Ben Levi Ross returning for a whole episode as Teddy Tascioni. The actor portraying Elsbeth’s son shared his anticipation about his first full episode and revealed what he fears most about the show, despite having a positive overall experience.
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that Ben Levi Ross made his grand entrance in the sixth episode of Season 2, a treat now available for streaming with a Paramount+ subscription. In an intriguing twist, Teddy, played by Ross, appeared as Elsbeth’s Christmas surprise at the end of the episode, but his arrival was kept under wraps. At this moment, we can only confirm that he features in Episode 6 and the upcoming Episode 7. The suspense continues as we eagerly await further developments, with the fall finale set for December 19. In a recent chat with Ross about joining the popular drama series, I couldn’t help but ask if he’d watched his two episodes yet. He graciously shared:
Instead of joining a crowd to watch, I prefer watching movies or TV shows alone. Frankly, my biggest fear is being surrounded by many people while doing so. When it comes to theater, that’s not an option since I’m on stage. [laughs] Honestly, even if they were the people I cherish most, I find it hard to watch myself with others in the room.
Working alongside Carrie Preston during the production of “Elsbeth” didn’t make Ben Levi Ross’s performances a nightmare to watch, quite the contrary – he found working with her as his on-screen mother to be “wonderful,” “natural,” and “easy.” It’s not unusual for actors to feel this way about their work and prefer not to revisit their own performances. Ben Levi Ross has considerable experience in theater, having appeared in numerous stage productions over the course of his career. One notable role was that of the title character in the national tour of “Dear Evan Hansen,” while Ben Platt portrayed the character in the controversial film adaptation.
Apart from working alongside Carrie Preston in the upcoming episode, he’ll also be interacting with more members of the team. However, you’ll need to watch on December 12th to verify this for yourself. Earlier, he made a brief appearance with Carra Patterson as Kaya and Wendell Pierce as Wagner in the Christmas special. Ross hinted that Teddy’s role will be expanded significantly in his first full episode.
In Episode 7, I have the pleasure of encountering many recurring characters. Now, Teddy has entered the series universe, and the more personalities I get to engage with, the more enjoyable it becomes. As an actor, it’s thrilling to join a well-established show and explore how this new character interacts with those who have been part of the show previously. It adds a layer of excitement and challenge that I find absolutely delightful!
Although Elsbeth has only been airing for a season and a half at the time of writing, it’s understandable why Ben Levi Ross would refer to it as an established series. Its roots trace back to Season 1 of The Good Wife in 2010, when Carrie Preston debuted as Elsbeth Tascioni.
In a span of fourteen episodes, she made an appearance, clinched an Emmy for her guest role, and later reprised the character for The Good Fight. It’s been nearly fifteen years since Elsbeth first appeared on screen, making her quite enduring in television! Given the vast amount of material stretching back over such a long period, one might wonder how Ross prepared to portray Teddy? He revealed:
When joining a well-established TV series, especially when portraying a family member of a significant character, it’s essential to figure out your place within the narrative universe. At the same time, I aimed to approach the role with an open perspective, treating the relationship with Carrie as an actor, and discovering what she was conveying through our interactions in person. Consequently, I entered the project with a relatively clean slate, attempting to forget any prior assumptions about her character on the show, and experience firsthand what it felt like to be alongside her within the setting.
Until last week’s holiday episode, the character Teddy hadn’t been seen before in any of the shows with Elsbeth. However, Ross cleverly utilized this opportunity and commented that:
But all that being said, it is also really helpful and fun to have watched the show prior to coming into it and know sort of the tone of the show, and think as a fan, what I would want Elsbeth’s son to be like and how I would want him to interact with her.
In the upcoming episode titled “One Angry Woman,” viewers will get an insight into Teddy’s true character beyond his kindness in wearing a Santa suit for his mom. Elsbeth faces a difficult situation due to Judge Milton, portrayed by Michael Emerson. Here is a sneak peek at the trailer:
On Thursdays, starting December 12 at 10 p.m. ET, CBS is airing “One Angry Woman”. After the fall finale of Matlock, it’ll be my turn to take the stage next week, with the last episode of 2024 on December 19 also at 10 p.m. ET. If you feel like catching up on some previous episodes of me (or The Good Wife and The Good Fight), you can do that right now by streaming them through Paramount+!
