As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that Landing Party has caught my attention like no other AR game before it. With a career that spans from the golden age of MMOs to the modern era of mobile gaming, I’ve seen it all – but never have I encountered a tech demo this promising.
Greetings and welcome! You’ve landed on Ahead of the Game, our special series designed to give you early access to exciting games before they officially launch. This is your opportunity to get a sneak peek and play these games ahead of their release date, whether it’s through Soft Launch, Open Beta, Demos, or other means. Enjoy the fun while it’s still under wraps!
If you’ve had an interest in battling extraterrestrial bunnies outside a large supermarket like Tesco, or exploring labyrinthine parking garages, then consider giving Landing Party a try. It’s a demonstration of an innovative concept, packaged as a downloadable demo, from the founder of Turbine – a company renowned for creating several successful MMOs before being bought by Warner Bros approximately 15 years ago.
The Landing Party employs AR technology to superimpose a fictional universe, which is filled with trouble due to an unknown entity giving consciousness and unique abilities to the indigenous wildlife. However, this development isn’t met with enthusiasm because the local creatures seem unfriendly towards you and your settlement.
As a gamer, I can tell you that these beings may not be the most tactically astute among us. There’s more to this game than meets the eye, as other factions are tugging at the strings, each vying for dominance over these creatures and ultimately, controlling the planet itself.
As a gamer, I can vouch that the Landing Party feels remarkably responsive right off the bat! Though I suspect we’ll witness enhancements to the visuals and scenarios, transforming the existing set of twelve sample levels into an immersive campaign with a compelling narrative, it’s already enjoyable to play, even in this demo phase.
Intrigued by the tech demo, Landing Party, I’m eagerly anticipating its potential expansion into a more comprehensive product. Their discussions so far have hinted at their ambition to introduce intricate scenarios found in MMOs and RPGs into Augmented Reality, moving beyond simple collection tasks. I’m looking forward to witnessing if they can successfully accomplish this goal.
You can download Landing Party on both Google Play and the AppStore using the links below.
