At its developer conference on Tuesday, The Walt Disney Company unveiled plans to introduce cutting-edge robots in their theme parks, which will be fueled by technology from tech titan Nvidia.
Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, announced a collaboration between Nvidia, Disney, and Google DeepMind on a joint project. On stage was one of Disney’s BDX robots from the Galaxy’s Edge area in Disneyland, which will be visiting other Disney theme parks this year.

Nvidia’s Jensen Huang revealed that Nvidia is teaming up with Disney and Google DeepMind on a project, showcasing one of Disney’s BDX droids from Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland. This year, these robots will also be seen in other Disney theme parks.
All three versions convey the same information but are slightly different in structure and word choice to provide variety and maintain readability.
Huang unveiled a new humanoid robot, which he’s named “GR00T N1,” drawing inspiration from the characters in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
As a gamer, I’m excited to announce that we’re stepping into the era of all-purpose robotics, thanks to innovations like the NVIDIA Isaac GR00T N1 and advanced data generation and learning frameworks for robotics. This is going to unlock uncharted territories in the world of AI!
Regarding the collaboration between Disney and Google DeepMind, these three entities aim to develop an open-source physics engine known as Newton. The primary objective is to equip robots with the ability to perform intricate tasks with greater accuracy.
According to Nvidia, the entertainment giant plans to utilize Newton to enhance their robot character platform, which is responsible for powering modern entertainment robots of the future.
As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the BDX droids are merely the start. We at Walt Disney Imagineering research & development are dedicated to breathing life into characters in unprecedented ways, and our partnership with Disney Research, NVIDIA, and Google DeepMind is a crucial step towards realizing this dream. This collaboration will empower us to develop a new era of robotic characters that are more expressive and interactive than ever before, fostering connections with our audience that can only be described as Disney magic.
For quite some time now, Disney has been incorporating animatronics and robots into its theme parks, however, they have recently increased their use of technology. Alongside the BDX droids, Disney debuted a “Stuntronic” Spider-Man robot that replicates the superhero soaring through the air. This year, they plan to introduce an animatronic figure of Walt Disney at Disneyland.
