As a fervent admirer of Dakota Johnson’s versatile acting career, I must say that it seems this talented actress has had more than her fair share of cinematic mishaps lately. From the disastrous Madame Web to an unfortunate incident onboard Qantas, Dakota’s life experience in Hollywood is proving to be a rollercoaster ride filled with unexpected twists and turns.
It seems like Dakota Johnson is experiencing quite a run of events lately, isn’t she? Following the release of the disappointing film “Madame Web” earlier this year, now an airline has issued an apology due to one of her movies being accidentally shown on a flight. The content of this movie, however, wasn’t “Fifty Shades of Grey”.
According to The Guardian’s report, Australian airline Qantas (famously depicted in the movie “Rain Man” with Dustin Hoffman) offered an apology following technical glitches that disrupted their in-flight system allowing passengers to choose their own movies. After some customers voiced concerns, a single film was broadcast to all passengers instead of a more family-friendly option. However, the movie selected, “Daddio” (a 2024 production starring Johnson and Sean Penn, rated R for “strong language, explicit sexual content, and brief graphic nudity”), turned out to be inappropriate for many. Consequently, passengers on a flight from Sydney, Australia to Tokyo, Japan were exposed to explicit content described by one traveler as “40 minutes of adult content,” with phrases like “help me cum” being heard by young ears. Upon recognizing the error, crew members swiftly terminated the broadcast, but the harm had already been inflicted, necessitating a statement from Qantas.
We regret to inform you that the chosen movie wasn’t appropriate for the entire duration of the flight. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. To ensure a more enjoyable journey, we switched all screens to a family-friendly movie for the remainder of the flight. This is our standard practice in unusual cases where personal movie selection isn’t feasible. We are currently looking into how the selection of this movie was made.
Dakota Johnson Is Officially Done With Superhero Movies
On a Qantas flight, another passenger expressed their confusion, thinking the movie they were watching starring Dakota Johnson was about Madame Web or something similar. Many people shared this sentiment when the superhero film premiered earlier this year, even Johnson herself. However, Sony executives criticized Johnson for her comments during the film’s press tour, which didn’t sit well with the studio. Despite this, she will appear in the upcoming romantic comedy ‘Materialists,’ distributed internationally by the company and domestically by A24.
For Johnson, it seems like her time in comic book movies is temporarily at an end, whether with Sony or not. Following the poor performance of ‘Madame Web’, which barely managed to recoup its budget, and the negative feedback that ensued (it currently has a 10% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), the actress found herself pondering her choices and came to the conclusion that perhaps such films aren’t quite her forte.
“It was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now.”
It’s likely beneficial since Johnson has been successful in recent non-MCU films such as “Cha Cha Real Smooth”, “Am I OK?”, and “The Lost Daughter”. These movies are quite different from the MCU, almost unrecognizable, and it might not be suitable to show them to airline passengers. Besides appearing in “Materialists”, she will next star in a new Neon comedy called “Splitsville”, which is slated to start filming later this year for a 2025 release.
