Aja Naomi King, Katori Hall Among Honorees at 10th Annual Black Women Film Network Summit (Exclusive)

The Black Women Film Network Summit is all set to mark a decade of influential contributions on March 22, 2025, at Atlanta’s Loudermilk Center. This special occasion aims to honor remarkable Black women who are paving the way in the film and television industry. With this year’s theme, “Plot Twist: Mastering the Art of Adaptation,” the event will showcase how these trailblazers skillfully navigate changes within the industry while making significant advancements.

Among this year’s recipients, Aja Naomi King from Grosse Pointe Garden Society is set to receive the AccelerateHER Award, and Katori Hall, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and creator of P-Valley, will be bestowed with the StoryTellHER Award. Notable executives being recognized for their significant contributions include Angi Bones (President of Original Programming at Tyler Perry Studios), Denise Williams Watts (Apple Music) and Felicia Joseph (Disney Entertainment Television). Each has made a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.

For over two decades now, I’ve been proudly associated with the Black Women Film Network (BWFN), a dynamic force that elevates Black women in the entertainment industry through events, scholarships, and networking platforms. The BWFN Summit, backed by NBCUniversal and fueled by CVENT, is their flagship event, where emerging stars and industry heavyweights gather for a day brimming with insightful discussions.

This year’s program promises engaging fireside chats with Kat Graham, renowned actress from Tyler Perry’s Duplicity, as well as Sonay Hoffman, co-showrunner of Found. Additionally, there will be panels focusing on funding, marketing, and PR strategies. I can hardly wait!

Chiquita Lockley, BWFN Board Chair and filmmaker, stated that these pioneers embody the essence of change, triumphing over obstacles while cultivating innovative work. For nearly three decades, BWFN has been actively working on the front lines, pushing open doors for women in film and television. As our industry adapts, we’ll strive to discover methods to assist our members in adapting as well.
